quarry conundrum quest, part of main story?

i am stuck at this quest.. anyone know how to do it? 
trying to solve this for over an hour. i signed up to kill stuff, not to solve annoying puzzles -_-. i lost my patience with this quest after 30 min, right now it's just getting frustrating as i read somewhere this quest is linked to the main story of orsinium. if someone can help me out here, it would be much appreciated

✭✭✭✭✭Each resonator moves two of the lenses, and you need to line the lenses up with the beams. Beyond that I can't really help right now, as I don't remember how many times you need to hit each one. have difficulties, but do not want to get stuck & and do not want to solve it with a real spoiler....
Listen well to the Elf: he says that every attack moves two rings 1 position.
If you look well you can see that there are 8 positions
Start positions all zero
Then do it on paper
Is less confusing
