Veteran rank and leveling of skills - how does it work?

I have just recently reached the veteran rank (level 50) and somehow it seems to me, that my skills are leveling much slower than before veteran rank. And I also have read on some forum, that now my skills do not level when using them (for example blacksmithing levels when creating or deconstructing weapons), but only from kills. Is that true? Or did I understand it wrong? I hope it is not true..

Leveling vet ranks is slower but in terms of crafting skill leveling it works the same as non vet levels (you still get ex from deconstructing & creating)

    oh, good, thank you :)

And how slower is leveling vet ranks? And what is the reason behind it?

Best way is to complete quests in silver and gold zone, putting in bar the skills that you want max up.

For crafting, best way is doing daily writes and decostructing all that you find around the world.

Veteran Rank levelling is 8 times slower than 1-50 levelling because you are gaining 1 rank per zone instead of 8 levels per zone. Skill levelling is no slower than it always has been, and still works by using the skills.

I would say 6 times slower as you are not doing cold harbor, fighters and mages guild or the main quest line

I also know one good ESO-related loop example:
    • You want to have maxed character as soon as possible
    • You skip all the content only to grind up to VR16
    • You complain about how boring the game is and on the lack of content
    • Totally not your fault

As soon as you get exp from anything, quests, kills, you level and your skills level too.

Also, many players switch to their off-bar that is filled only with the skills they want to level before handing in (completing) the quests. This allows them to kick off the ground quite easily.

From my experience, Vet leveling is soooooooooo slow.

Everything else, crafting and weapon/armor skills, appear to level up faster. The only reason I say this is because for crafting I'm deconstruction items that are higher levels, and some of the weapons I am trying seem to level up faster because I am fighting higher level mobs.

hmm, that reminded me of a question I wanted to post here earlier, but forgot about that.

When I am deconstructing a higher level item, do I get more exp that from deconstructing low level items? I assume yes

The same way you level up quicker by crafting hi-level items (e.g. pots, food) than low-level ones.

    Hey,

In general the game moves from normal exp to vet exp. but now both give normal exp however there is a drastic difference in the exp awarded in Vet areas for questing vs normal areas from recent updates with Imperial City. Months ago changes were made so that normal exp and vet exp were the same. What didn't change was the vast amount of exp require per Vet level compared to a normal level, so even with the VR reduction of exp required per Vet level, that amount of exp was waaaaay more than what is required level 3 - 49 per level.

Skills - these should continue to level the same way but the speed does seem to slow down in conjunction with the Vet higher exp required. They are not on the same exp tables but I think we've all noticed a slow down affect once in Vet zones.
Just be sure to place any one skill from a tree that you want to level up on the active bar (not on a secondary bar) and play.
Be sure to place the specific skill that you want to level on the bar as the skill only levels IF and WHEN that specific skill is on your bar while killing NPC's or when gaining normal exp (excluding crafting).

Crafting - I've not noticed any changes here but as you level up each crafting type, the deconstruction of items will determine how much exp gain you progress in any one crafting skill tree. My suggestion for Blacksmith, Woodwork and clothing is to find an area that drops a mix of items and grind there as long as the Vet mobs are within 3 - 5 levels of your character level, you should always get items. For areas to grind, just do a simple Google Search "<faction> Grind spots for Vet <level #>"

A much more effective way of doing this if you don't mind questing is to just do all the silver and gold zone quests and deconstruct as you go. This isn't the shortest way but accomplishes character and game progression as well as crafting progression

*There may be some inaccuracies in my information as I'm Vet 14+ and 50 in all crafting for Clothing, Woodworking and Blacksmith.
