Sorcerer Set Armor

Greetings,

I was looking to get some community opinions on Sorcerer set armors. I'm looking to flesh out my Sorcerer, and currently do not use any set equipment with him. I am aware of the Crafting locations and how to make and mix set pieces (as my NB and Templar both utilize armor/weapon sets in those builds), but I was wanting opinions on what are good sets to go with and mix for a DPS Sorcerer who is mainly PvE and only dabbles in PvP.

My Magicka regen and total Magicka are insanely high as it is right now, I'm looking for what would be good sets to boost his DPS, but still keep the Magicka regen at a solid rate.

Thank you for your time.

You can have a look here:

Seducer's and Magnus are probably the go-to standard though.
    PC / NA
    Thenathra - Khajiit Stormblade (Sorcerer - Dual-wield Swords/Lightning Staff)

Several alts I've created, but haven't leveled much yet:
    Norryne - Dunmer Paladin (Templar - Two-hand Hammer/One-hand Hammer & Shield)
    Demerwei - Argonian Shadowscale (Nightblade - Dual-wield Axes/Dual-wield Daggers)
Gohrnag - Orc Elementalist (Dragon Knight - Frost Staff/Lightning Staff)
Kerasha - Redguard Mystic (Templar - Flame Staff/Restoration Staff)
Alawael - Bosmer Assassin (Nightblade - Bow/Two-hand Battleaxe)
Hjerlm the Quiet - Nord Dragonguard (Dragon Knight - One-hand Sword & Shield/Two-hand Greatsword)

I've had that site bookmarked for a while. lol It has come in very handy with planning my NB and Templar sets. :)

I was more or less just wondering what more experienced Sorcerer's were using as their "go-to" armor sets when crafting new armor. I like to know what the experienced Sorcerer's are using to augment their lethality.

Seducer's and Magnus, eh? I could see that.

Any caster I have has a 5 Piece Seducer set, even my Heavy Armor DK Tank uses Seducer.

The question is what to mix with it. Currently two of my casters are using Soulshine (2 rings, necklace and legs and helm) and one is using a few pieces of Martial Knowledge. For crafted sets, Torugs Pack is good for some extra magic and spell damage. Really, with a 5 piece Seducer the other 3 pieces should be from a set that gives a 3 piece bonus that your character can use. In this regard, I have used Song of Lamae, Eyes of Mara, Ashen Grip and a few others all depending. I would set a target of having 50% Spell Criticals on your character, that might help you with your 3/4 piece set choice.

What I also do is put the best Spell Cost reduction Glyphs on the Jewelery that I can make. Dropping your spell costs by 600 at upper vet ranks goes a long way to maintaining your magic pool so you don't need insane regen. With just about 1400 in Magic Regen, I never run out of magic in a fight, even taking down a boss in a Vet instance Group Dungeon. In fact, I never drop to below 50% magic during a fight weaving in light attacks and spamming the heck out of spells. The only time I ran out of magic last night was a boss that drains your magic, but even then, I could still fire off spells in between heavy attacks with only some small delays in the firing rate.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

A 5 piece seducer will help sustain your magic but if you feel your character doesn't need help there you can basically ignore this in favour of something that increases spell damage. A two piece of torugs pact increases spell damage. Also the Magnus set and the eyes of mara set can be crafted and both feature bonuses to spell damage at 4 pieces along with max Magika and Magika regen boosts. The Phoenix set from imperial city also does max magicka Magika regen and spell damage. Depending on level keep an eye out for magicka based dropped sets that include rings and/or necklace for example the warlock set or Magika furnace (which increases spell damage). On my current vet 3 sorc I have 5 piece magicka furnace (2rings 1 necklace chest and legs) 4 piece Phoenix ( shoulders, hands, feet and waist) and 2 piece torugs pact (head and staff) this results in 3 separate boosts to my spell damage a bunch of Magicka and magicka regen and a nice 5 piece bonus that returns Magika when I'm hit by melee.

By no stretch of the imagination am I an elite player or even that good at Pvp but this set up works well for me and is relatively easy to acquire so feel free to use any of the ideas

The most basic crafted gear sets for sorcs would be:

    5x Seducer
    3x Torugs Pact
    3x arcane Willpower (jewelry)
Bonus: 2x magicka regen, 2,5x max magicka, 2,5x spell dmg, 1x health and 8% cost reduction.

    4x Magnus
    3x Torugs Pact
    4x Healers (jewelry + 1x light)
3x spell dmg enchants on jewelry
Bonus: 2x magicka regen, 2x max magicka, 3x spell dmg and 1x health.

Thief mundus would be best for dps but if you want high magicka regen you can use Atronach mundus.

These are all outstanding, and I'm freakin writing them down. lol

I ended up crafting a 5-piece Seducer set last night and 3-piece Torug's Pact.

My Enchanting Skill is crap-level right now, so I'm having to work with Jewelry that I find/buy, but I plan on making some deeper foray's into the Imperial City in the near future, so the jewelry situation could change.

Now, I just need to crawl over my maps and find an Apprentice Mundus stone to flesh out my Spell Critical rating. Other than that, I think I'm going to run with this set-up for a little bit and tweak it as necessary.

Thank you all for the invaluable advice. :)

Seducer is good for sustain but doesn't have any damage on it.

My sorcerer guildmate uses 2P Torug, 1P Kena, 5P Pheonix (because he does a bit of PvP too) otherwise he would probably have gone the Kagrenac road.
He has 44k magicka and 3600+ Spell Power. He is around 25k DPS on bosses in PvE.
What? Lead? Me? No, no, no. No leading. Bad things happen when I lead. We get lost, people die, and the next thing you know I’m stranded somewhere without any pants.

Seducer is good because you only need 3 traits researched in 5 pieces to create a full set. You can be running this set quite early in the game and the bench is just outside of Wayrest so it's easy

5 pieces of Shalidor's curse is good for survivability. When under 50% health each light attack restores 487 health. But you need to have completed the Mages Guild to access the bench

If you have good total Magicka and good Magicka Regeneration and you want to improve DPS, go with mixed pieces that improve Spell Damage.

Here are some of the strongest DPS options:
    For all V16 gear:
Kagrenac's: 5 pieces or Overwhelming Surge: 5 pieces
    Arcane Willpower Jewelry: 3 pieces
Monster Helm 2 pieces (Molag Kena is best) or Torug's Pact 2 pieces
    Master Weapon

Honestly, when Orsinium drops, the Law of Julianons set will be the go-to set for people wanting spell damage out of their armor set.

If you cannot get / afford the cool new stuff, you can still get great boosts from the older V14 sets:
    Martial Knowledge: 4 pieces
    Torug's Pact: 2 pieces
Adroitness: 2 pieces (One Armor piece and a Necklace)
    Cyrodiil Light Rings: 2 pieces
    Master Weapon

And obviously you can mix and match with what you like or have available.

    Hope that helps.

Just a small note, 4x healers is better than 2x adroitness and 2x cyrodiils light, you basically get free magicka regen bc there is only a small difference in dmg.

2x Spell dmg vs 1x spell dmg, 1x max magicka and 1x magicka regen

"Better" is relative. If the person does not need the regen or max magicka and just wants spell damage, the above set up is "better." Besides, it's all mix and match. Worm Cult items can replace Adroitness. A staff of Adroitness can replace the master weapon if someone wants more Magicka or if they want to use 3 pieces of the Willpower set. Etc., etc., etc.

Not really surprising for a couple reasons.

    1. Rattlecage is a horrible set for sorcs
    2. Rattlecage wasn't in the game when this post was made

    Lich is good for PVP.
Necromancer is great for pet builds.
    Willpower is great jewelry.

You can never go wrong with Julianos, Seducer, 4 piece Kags.

Don't do 2 pieces Molag Kena unless you don't have resource issues and do light attack weaves.

And please don't mix PVE and PVP armor. Keep your PVP armor Impen/Infused and your PVE sets Divines/Infused (exception with tanks). I know people who mix the two and die a lot in both PVE and PVP and they constantly ask why they aren't added to groups of hard content. Derp.

They die a lot because they're bad, not because of the impen. I got flawless wearing 5 pieces of impen.
