Why are monster sets valuable?

I understand that Kena is effective for damage, but two items of the other sets have only a 2 -10 % chance to proc, so why is this good? Is it in combination with caltrops and other micro-procs items that makes two Skoria, for example, very effective?

Yes the undaunted sets are mainly rng based and can help some types of builds a lot. They also have a sort of cool factor to them.
Skoria was much much better back in the day. Its proc chance was nerfed repeatedly. It was a considerable dps increase if played with a dot heavy build. It is still a somewhat useful but not much.

For certain builds, all these things are effective.
The best and most used monster set is engine guardian.

Monster sets also are the only armor pieces currently that offer 1 piece bonuses. So many people only wear 1 piece or 2 different pieces to get a huge health boost.
However, there are monster sets that are extremely weak and underpowered. The Maw of the Infernal and Mephala for example.
    Auri-El is my lord,
    Trinimac is my shield,
    Magnus is my mind.

Scourge Harvester ftw! pretty damn awesome for Stam builds. Nerenith is awesome for Stam builds too, so long as you get in close enough.

I wouldn't use anything but kena personally. Of course, that's the only one I haven't gotten multuples of :S

I will use Kena, but not in a hurry since I have 5 Hunding, 3 Night Mother, and 3 robust agility jewelery. I want max dps and stam, so will a bosmer vamp nb have any use for the Scourge Harvester set? Is a 6 % proc effective? Seems too random...

Monster Sets are meant to be the long-term goal for players. Otherwise they just whine theres nothing to do, especially now we have a cap on CP, this kind of stuff is indeed needed, but dont make them too OP.

The only two monster sets that are valuable is the Engine Guardian (typically for PvE tanks and some resource intensive PvP builds) and the Molag Kena (typically for PVE DPS), and even then for specific builds. Maybe bloodspawn if you get hit a lot in PvP and rely on ultimates.

In general, when it comes to monster helms the set bonus are bad (most of them are +health), proc too little and have too conditional proc rates.

They are powerful for two reasons:

    1. The 1 piece bonus can be useful to enable people to fit an extra buff into their build if they only have 1 slot free. EG. 1 piece Molag Kena gives Spell& weapon damage & is frequently used in both DPS & healer builds.

    2. The 2 piece bonuses are unique and not just your average flat rate stat increase, but are very build dependent. I disagree with there being only two useful sets though, good sets include....
    • Engine Guardian - Best regen set in the game. Fantastic for PvP & also used by many PvE tanks.
    • Nerien'eth - Become a monster DPS set for all non DOT dps builds. Particularly good for those who use a lot of crushing shock.
    • Blood Spawn - Most common tank set.
    • Molag Kena - The new fashionable DPS set... but resource hungry. Very strong though, particularly for Overload build Sorcs.
    • Malubeth - Ok tank set.

I haven't listed Valkyn here... I'm not convinced that its the best setup for a DK anymore since all the nerfs... I'd rather have higher spell damage in those 2 slots now tbh.
