People shouldn't have to waste one of their precious skills just to find out if someone is a Vampire or not. It's like when you've got a buff active, there's a visual that appears on the character to let you know.

Well, theoretically (though not in actual practice in this silly game) vampires ARE supposed to be able to "hide" among normal mortals. It says as much right there in the vampire quest (as in the screenshot I linked in the OP). It should actually NOT be apparent that vampires ARE vampires unless they are 1) starving themselves and therefore developing a bestial appearance or 2) they use an ability that is obviously vampiric in nature. Thus, Stage 1 should actually make you look just like a normal mortal. So yes, to "detect" them you actually should have to use (and therefore slot) a special ability that allows you to do so. That is what they are there for after all. Add-ons that allow you to circumvent this mechanic are, in my opinion, a cheat and should be disallowed. I can't figure out why ZoS ignores it frankly.

" a cheat and should be disallowed" But you quit pvp so why is it an issue? As someone who does pvp regularly, it is very easy to tell that any player is a vampire. The only exception is heavy armor, which is not often used. They hide among mortals because the appearance is often minimally different (attributed to variance) or the strain specifically masks them. Make no mistake though, almost every vampire in every TES game looked different form mortals. It would make no sense for vampires to appear mortal in stage 1.

It's one of the things about PVP that is broken and one of the reasons I don't engage in it anymore. Just one though, mind you. And you're wrong about it just being heavy armor that can conceal, off the top of my head there's the Necromacer set, which is light armor, and does the same thing. There are others but I'm on my first cup of coffee and don't feel like creating an exhaustive list anyway. The main point is, if you want to hide your vampire using armor, you can.

And yes, I am well aware of how vampires looked in the previous TES games. I'm pretty sure it's why ZOS made the mistake they did with vampires here. Look at it this way... Most people accept that you cannot do everything that vampires (or even non-vamp characters) could do in the single players games because that would make it unbalanced in an MMO. In a single player game you really ARE "the one true hero" and being exceptional is built right into the game. No one notices that your vampire IS a vampire in the single player games because they are NPCs who, for the most part, have had little or no experience of vampires in the first place. So it's not until the latter stages of vampirism, when you begin to look REALLY as if there is something deeply wrong with you, that people notice and become alarmed. ZOS very obviously forgot that THIS game is populated by other players who have OOC knowledge of vampires and WILL recognize them on sight even in the lower stages where the difference in looks is, as you say, "minimal." To compensate for that, Stage 1 SHOULD have allowed you to maintain your normal mortal appearance. It should also last longer than a mere half hour because that's just a ridiculously short and pointless length of time.

But the fact is, I'm not even asking for that anymore. Instead I'm willing to give them money for something they can do quite easily, create a "Mortal" skin for the cash shop that vampires can wear that conceals all the Stages. And I'm perfectly fine if it can't be worn in Cyrodil even though the ability to do so would not change anything anyway.
