Why do skills rank up after morphing?

As the title says, why do skills continue to gain ranks 7,8,9 etc after already being morphed? Do these rank increases affect anything with the skill like the stats or cost to use etc?

Usually affects the damage or duration.

ok, so for example a crystal blast that does 1000 damage at rank 1 for 500 magicka might do 1500 damage at rank 10 for 400 magicka?

Is there a calculator somewhere on the internet that can show me all of the maxed skills so I can decide which ones to use for my build?

I assume each skill maxes out at rank 10?

No, they're definitely not. Max rank for a skill pre-morph is IV, and then the max rank for a skill post-morph is IV.

Nope. They go to rank IV then morph then up to rank IV again

Then learn the Roman numerals. Both regular, unmorphed skill and its morphed version max out at rank IV. (4) therefore as I say, you cannot have rank 5 or 6, you might be just misunderstanding it with something else.

Either way, ranking up your abilities or morphs makes them naturally better in terms of damage or increased duration.
