Hi all,

In last week's ESO live, there was a quick mention of a 64 bit client. You can hear it in the following link (starts at 59:00): http://www.twitch.tv/zenimaxonlinestudios/v/19260239

is this something that will be released along with Orsinium?

Hmm, for some reason it doesn't post the video from last week.

Here is the link (remove the blank space)

The way it sounded is like they were working on it for MAc's. Can't wait for the 64 bit client. Will make things much better!

So, ESO will now leak memory at double rate? Or crash twice as often?

'Twill be interesting to see if the extra memory makes a difference.

I seem to get best framerate by disabling multithreading. When I do that, I don't see memory usage go above about 2GB.
My wife complains that I never listen to her. (Or something like that.)

    My ESO addons:
Midnight - Find out when midnight is so that you can check for ww/vamp spawn.
Goto - Adds a tab to the map pane allowing you to teleport to a friend, guildmate, or groupmate for free.

If that is the case then they really did a lousy job at multithreading this application.

well if leaking memory causes it to crash by blowing its address space then 64 bit will make that not happen, pretty much. processes in 64-bit os x have a massive amout of address space (18 exabytes or something). windows doesn't give you as much but it's still orders of magnitude more than the 32-bit maximum

    I *think* that's what I'm doing, anyway..

i once worked on a (badly written) java program which was running out of address space. Java programs only get 1 GB (the theoretical 32bit max is 4 GB, windows steals 2GB, then the java runtime environment steals another 1GB) but the thing was still wasting a deplorable amount of memory

Or will just delay the inevitable. Most 64bit exes use about 33% more memory (give or take) to do the exact same thing since all the memory pointers are now twice as big, and there's still a physical memory limit (your installed ram).

I'd like to see ZoS confirm if there will actually be a 64bit bin, it's been asked about and rumored since beta.

If the 64 bit client is correctly implemented, it will cache more game data into memory which should in theory reduce load times, and increase the frame rate since transferring the graphic data from memory to the GPU buffer is much quicker than from disk to GPU.

... But again it all depends on how the 64 bit client caches the extra memory. Will it use a predicted cache algorithm? Who knows, but the game constantly reads 200k streams from the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\depot

Note that using more memory will not solve the game lag that many users experience.

This. I don't believe 64-bitness will benefit the game much, other than putting off possible crashes due to memory leaks for a while due to the larger address space. DX12, now that would be a potential game changer. I'm not really hopeful, though, since that would be a PC and maybe XBOX-only thing.

Well PS4 use a even lower Profile API then Dx12 will be, so it would be worse on PS4 with Dx12

Good grief, does everything have to turn into a console/PC war?

By the way, your post doesn't even make sense. There IS no DirectX on PS4, nor will there be, so the game couldn't be better or worse for it.
