Mages Guild level not increasing with lorebooks

My sorcerer stopped getting Mages Guild xp several months ago when finding new lorebooks. The message 'Lorebook discovered' will appear, but there will be no corresponding increase in Mages Guild xp. As a result, this character is stuck at level 9...

Is this a known bug? How do I get this fixed? I'd love my sorcerer to actually be able to finish leveling this skill line...

I think it is confusing because the only "lore" books that raise that particular line are the blue glowing ones. The ones you find in bookcases give the lore book found message but no skill increase. I will say that there is more then enough books to raise that skill to level ten easily.

seen this quite a lot, lately.

once in a while the progression bar will appear, but mostly it doesn't.

    strange days.

At a guess you started noticing this when you went from level 49 to VR1 right?

That would be because as stated before not all the lore books you find in Cadwell's silver and gold are Mages Guild lore books, it's only the ones that glow purple, the ones that glow yellow/brown are really just normal books that for some reason trigger the lore book message when read.

I've seen it with both types of books.

It is beyond stupid to have that message appear if it doesn't mean the same thing as it does with the purple glowing books. I think those lorebooks are supposed to count as well, and that the game is badly bugged for some toons. If they aren't supposed to count, they need to change the message to 'thank you for wasting your click'.

Lore Book Read message was recently (with IC update I think) added to books that go into Eidetic Memory, once you have gained Eidetic Memory. These books do not and never have given a skill increase, just the fact that they give a message is new.

The books that give Mages Guild XP are, as others have said, the ones that glow blue and only those.

I found it very helpful and in my opinion it actually motivates me to explore more.

That was a really bad implementation.

I kind of like getting a message for those tbh, but it should be a different message - "Added to Eidetic Memory" would work great :)

No, I noticed this for the first time several months ago when stumbling across lorebooks in the original content. My sorcerer has been max level for much longer than that. I figured it would be fixed at some point, but it hasn't been, because I found a what appeared to be a purple lorebook while going back for some bosses I had skipped this weekend that did not increase my mages guild xp. Maybe that was just some strange lighting?

I'll have to get that addon and go hunting this week to see if I can confirm...

And having lorebooks that aren't lorebooks give the lorebook message is just stupid. Talk about an easy fix...hopefully they correct it so it reads something else for the 'not quite lorebooks'.

Yeah, that would be fine. As long as it doesn't say "Lorebook Discovered".

Same goes for me and some others with the fighters guild skill line.
I see you already posted your issue in this thread here, but would like to show it for some others too:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/de/discussion/221681/bug-not-able-to-progress-in-the-fighters-guild-mages-guild-skill-line-anymore#latest

ZOS please finally look at this issue and give a statement or just do anything and inform us. More and more people can not progress in the Fighters Guild skill line or the Mages Guild skill line anymore. As I read there are already people who have this issue for over a year now. Nothing happenend. It is really depressing when you want to play with those skills, especially the ultimates. (For example I can not use flawless dawnbreaker as a stamina nightblade...that is just annoying

there are real lorebooks in the game and with the last update they screwed it up where there are lots and lots of fake lorebooks suddenly in the game.

lets take white gold tower as an example, there are like 20 fake lore books in there and no real onces

imperial sewers, lots and lots of fake lorebooks, and only 3 real onces that level your mages guild skill line

With the Lorebooks addon installed I've noticed that some Mage-Guild Lorebooks are actually the glowing orange color of regular journals etc, whereas some normal books have the purple glowing effect. They're quite rare, but still there in some places.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

This starts happening after you complete the Mage's Guild Questline, and Shalidor gives you Eidetic Memory.

Shalidor's Library unlocks when you join the Mage's Guild. It consists of the books that give you Mage's Guild XP, and those books have a Blue Glow around them. There are only 297 of these, if I recall correctly.

You get Eidetic Memory at the end of the Mage's Guild questline, and it saves EVERYTHING you read. Books, small notes, literally everything that is readable ingame. essentially turning EVERYTHING into a Lorebook.

You get the "Lorebook Discovered" message for both types of books, but only the Shalidor's Library (blue glow) books give Mage's Guild XP.

I admit to being pretty peeved that I have not had access to meteor on my sorcerer despite having played the game since launch. Nothing to be done about it now except drop some meteors on people...
