Heavy attack and character movement

I was curious if anyone is having the same problems with their character. I've noticed I have a mage build and noticed the last few days that my heavy attacks have a shield buff or something which wasn't there before. While playing my character also couldn't attack, but would just jerk his arm back and forth, for about a minute. Now the shield buff or whatever is not there. I went over my equipment and abilities but couldn't find what would give me that heavy attack buff. I know and expect game lag, but it's hard to play when your character can't attack.
