Hey all, absolutely love this game :) but I am hearing things in the game and I have no idea what they mean lol. Like what does min/max mean? How do the traits work for crafting?(I found a couple set crafting stations but cant craft anything at them) If I buy a new mount will all the feeding from my other mount carry over? Im sure ill run into more things I have questions about as I go but that's a start, thanks

    1) Min/Max is someone that creates their character for the Maximum abilities (healing, damage, tanking) ignoring all other basically. Specific race, item sets, skills, champion points, etc.

    2) Traits are extra bonuses you get on gear. Sets require you to know a certain amount of traits (gained through Researching an item that has that trait which destroys the item) before you can craft them.

    3) Mount training is locked to your character. If you buy a new mount then it will have the same training but if you create an alt character then you need to buy all the training again. Tip: Create a few alts now and park them in a stable, log into them daily just to spend the 250 gold to upgrade the mount skills before you play them.

Excellent :) thanks for the timely response. im gonna make a couple alts and get the horses training now. So I have to have learned 5 traits on that specific item in order to craft it if it says it requires 5 traits? do they have to be specific traits or just any 5? man that's a timesink eh

Any 5 traits and each trait you learn increases the research time, once you get to the 9th trait you are looking at a month. If you are planning on learning traits then get the Skill for that line that increases that amount of research you can do at a time as it also lessens the research time.

    Yes it is a timesink.
One thing to think about is which traits you research first. Ones like Exploration, Training, Well-fitted, Sturdy should be researched Last as the time increase the more traits you research on a given item. You want the important ones first, Sharpened, Precise, Reinforced, Infused, Divines, etc.

There are numerous guides out there on crafting and research, just be sure to check that it's not outdated info at this stage of the game.

Yes, it's a time sink. But when it feels so nice when you can just go to whatever set crafting station to try out a new set. :-)

The research times get really long the more traits you research on a certain weapon or armour piece, but some of the traits are not worth researching since you'll never craft items with them. I found this guide useful hope you do too:

For some, it is easier to level an alt and have it devoted to just crafting. That way you don't need to spend all those skill points every time you need to craft or have them take up skill points. Personally I did it all on one character and it is some what difficult having all crafting maxed out and use the character for PVP and PVE. Always start with the weapons and armor you use the most when deciding what to research, for example, if you think a lot of your characters might wear light armor start with that, and start with the traits you might be more likely to use, like Divines etc instead of like well fitted.

All awesome info, thanks folks, im gonna get an alt researching stuff shortly. Another dumb question, how does the weapon and spell crit work? Will I only do a crit if I attack an enemy who isn't expecting it or is there a chance of getting a crit when just fighting?

I much prefer playing this way. I turned my main into a crafter at VR3. I'm master at all the crafting trades with all the passives. It really free's up points for my other characters in combat. I do alchemy and provisioning on all my characters though.

There's always a chance to crit (although in PVP players can wear gear that protects them from crits), but physical attacks from stealth when the target isn't facing you automatically crit. There are also some abilities that give you an automatic crit.

I have one thing to add to the traits for sets especially for noobs. The first two sets available require two traits for each piece to craft. It doesn't matter what the trait is. It takes just 18 hours to gain the first two traits and there are 8 or 9 slots available so you can mix both the stamina raising Night's Silence and the health boosting Death Wind fairly quickly. While training is not desirable it is easy to find and worthwhile to get the bonus on the early sets. The only real drawback is that the trait has to be on the piece you want to craft. I don't do melee other than some dual wield daggers so researching an axe does not help my set crafting though it does count towards trait master. The more desirable traits are very hard to find "in the wild" and usually expensive from a trader. I do have to wonder though how someone can consider themselves a noob if they are looking a 5 trait sets. That sounds like someone who just hasn't gotten around to exploring all the potential in crafting.

It depends on your alliance, but the 2-trait sets stations are all in your alliance's first full zone after the starter islands (by the way, I hope you did the starter islands - they're totally worth it). There's a good guide to the locations of the set crafting stations here:

For the 2-trait sets Death's Wind is great for general survivability (making it always a solid choice, and especially for newer players), Night's Silence is good for a stealth-oriented stamina build, and Ashen Grip is good for increasing your damage output.

I prefer to do my crafting early on an AD character. Everything is close together and the two early sets are safe to get to. Death Wind is on the beach right outside the back door of the Outlaw Refuge. Night's Silence is on the beach just beyond Skywatch. In the other alliances the set crafting stations are in the middle of nowhere off the path and surrounded by mobs. Since gear can be shared through the bank, I just have one character who learns everything make what is needed while she researches to be able to make new sets as they appear.

I like Death Wind with Magic enchantments for my sorcerers. It helps smooth the bumps of my ineptitude.
