They are not connected to each other.

PC, PS4 and Xbox One players are active on their own independent servers.

No, it's in fact a good decision.

Keyboard/mouse players have too much advantages over gamepad users.

A keyboard/mouse combo is faster and more precise.

PC gamers have long mocked the use of handheld controllers as an input method for shooters and other genres that require fast, precise actions. Apparently, that attitude isn't unwarranted, based on a blog post by the founder of Voodoo PC and current CTO of HP's gaming division, Rahul Sood.

According to Sood's sources, "many many months ago," Microsoft set out on a Xbox Live project that would let PC and console users interact on some form of united multiplayer platform – a grand idea on paper. In practice however, it's said that PC gamers "destroyed" console players every time.

The slaughter was so bad, Sood says that Microsoft even pitted "mediocre" PC gamers against "the best" console gamers in testing, and the results were unchanged: the keyboard and mouse prevailed. It's not clear what titles were played, but Unreal and Gears of War are mentioned.

Displeased with its findings, Microsoft supposedly cancelled the project to spare its Xbox team and players the embarrassment. I think most of us can agree a keyboard and mouse is more precise, but what do you prefer and why? Feel free to preach the virtues of your input device in the comments.

No, it's not. You just have that opinion or an impression.
Microsoft and so many other companies, universities and independent UX-labs examined this issue.

They all have the same conclusions.

The online FF games and ESOTU are very different games with differing combat.
Where one game is better with mouse/keypad, another will be better with a (insert console) controller.
And even when it comes to controllers, FF14 and ESOTU still differ.
I don't know why people still compare apples and oranges.
    NA, PC Megaserver
Zhaani, Female Khajiit, Nightblade, AD (current main)
(Unless otherwise put in my sig, all characters are below level 50)

Mouse/keyboard is much faster and precise as a gamepad.

In which game is a lower speed of interacting and less accuracy an advantage?

In shooters, particularly first person, kbm definitely wins out over conrtoller. However in games such as the Souls Series (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls I & II) or other third person mostly melee games prescise character movement doesn't translate over to kbm near as well.

It only means the marketing team overruled the findings.

The PS4 is selling much better than the Xbox and it seems they are so desperate at Microsoft that they took a populistic decision.

On paper it looks great, in the end it will cost them players.

However, it's not that Microsoft maybe would allow cross-platform gaming, that all game companies will follow.

    And what about other issues?

Render distance, frame rates, different UI due position player vs. his screen, ...

One issue is that neither can communicate effectively with the other platform so this was a great decision.
In this game having keyboard and mouse does offer advantages over controller only.

No matter who it is...more buttons is going to provide an advantage.

Can you please help me find the quote that states that ESO will have cross platform play. All I can see is that Fable will be the first game that will have cross platform play.
