Just want to know what the cap is at now from 32.5k and if going over does anything at all.

    32.9k is the cap at vr16.

    Having more only is accounted vs enemy penetration. In pve, boses base penetrations are unknow, and you are pierced armor in very few encounters and actually you don't even need to be at cap for any encounter.

    In PVP everyone runs big amounts of penetration via sharpened, nirnhoned or cp, so the more resistances you get, the more you will mitigate after penetration.

    So 32.9k mitigates 50% dmg right? Why wouldn't I want it at the cap if I can mitigate 50% dmg without even blocking? Not to mention damage reduction to most enemies by 15% with talons etc...

    I think he meant get it close but don't feel as though you need to sacrifice something important to go from 29k physical to 32k or from 31k spell resistance to 33k. Of course if you get those numbers over comfortably with all the health magic and stam pools nice and high along with recovery then even better.

    Wasn't it 1.6 that removed the caps? 1.7 must've been like what half a year ago at least? We're at 2.1.something now

    1.7 is what came with IC. Not that long ago.
    And yes, soft caps were removed with 1.6. There is still hardcaps though (like for resistence).

    Some people still (incorrectly and confusingly) refer to patches with the 1.x naming system that was dropped when ESO became ESO:TU.

    1.6 = 2.0.x - ESO:TU.
    1.7 = 2.1.x - Imperial City.
    1.8 = 2.2.x - Orsinium.

    Pretty certain we were way past 1.7 with IC, since Wrothgar was 2.1 IIRC

    No we are not. After 1.5 came 2.0 or so. But loads of player just said 1.6 instead. IC is 2.1, but also named often as 1.7.

    the effective cap regardless of your amount of resstance be it 33k or 124k you can mitigate a max of 50% of the incomming dmg at 32.9k.
    with over 32.9k though you will still be at 50% if the opponent uses a resistence debuff or has another way of resistance penetration

    exceeding the cap is possible but there is no additional damage mitigation (in PvE)

    You should change your CP around a bit, or use some infused/divines traits instead of defending. or drop armor buff from your bar (unless using armor master set)
    Spoiler
    pressume you probably have 75 CP in the steed and a fair few into spell resist and armor to get this? putting them into hardy and elemental defender might be a better use if you are exceeding the cap. Damage reduction and and resistances do stack, but over capping resistance is a waste

    unless this is some kind of armor set proc like armor master, mark of the pariah etc.

    It is armor master so will the extra resist count?

    No, it won't do anything as it's above the hard cap for damage mitigation. The only exception is if you're hit by an effect that reduces your resistance. So if you're at 37K resistance and you're hit by an effect that reduces your resistance by 5K, then you'll still be at the hard cap for mitigation despite the debuff to your resistance. That's the only benefit to having more than 32K resistance (and yes, I know that the cap is actually 32.9K, I'm just using 32K for simplicity).

    So basically at 37K resistance you've got 50% mitigation. If you get hit by something that reduces your resistance to 32K you're still at 50% mitigation. If you're reduced further your mitigation will go down.
