I was able to connect for 30 minutes, while playing, I tried to teleport to Auridon and I was then kick with no Error message, its been almost 2 hours now and I still cant connect.

There is no Error message that comes up, there is no issue with my connection as other programs/games work fine, its only when trying ESO that it doesn't work.

    Please fix this.

Just to note I have done everything that I was told to do in the past and nothing worked.

It just kicked me out constantly yesterday, today I am able to play, yet, it might still kick me as I haven't been on long enough to say that its no longer a problem for me.

I'm EU and have the same issue. It randomly logs me out every 15 minutes or so, and sometimes it fails to reconnect on my first attempt and tells me to try again later. This has been getting worse.

Also... FYI, this is not exclusive to PC, I'm on a Mac. This is a network problem on your end, and started happening after the midweek maintenance done last week. I already described my issue in several threads/posts, but I don't see any resolution...

    My issue is simple:

    1. Fail to login over and over and over again. msgs say either Login Failed or couldnt reach the server/check you internet connection (lol)
    2. Getting DCed almost always when I go through a loading screen (I'd say I have a >75% chance of getting DCed)
    3. When and if I get to enter the character selection screen, I select the character and... loading screen... again... another chance to get DCed
    4. Sometimes, in the Login Screen, the announcement area says something like "Could not retrieve announcement"

I don't see how posting screenshots would be useful to diagnose network problems, but... I'm going to indulge you...

    Hi Support,

Yesterday I had an uninterrupted gameplay session, however I get these times where I get kicked and cannot log back in for days.

I am not going to send a screenshot because if you have ever played the game, you should know what the log in screen looks like, and that's all I get, when getting kicked. When, I however, fail to log back in, the only message that pops up, is nothing fancy, no numbers or error codes, just simply a message stating that I need to ensure I have a valid internet connection.

Yes not every persons connection is stable at all times, but when I cannot log in for days to ESOTU, I can log into other games and play perfectly, then I ask, is it really me, is it ALWAYS me, or is it just the servers, nah must be me, cant be ESO, I mean they got a Mega Server, let me say it again A MEGA SERVER, in fact 2 of them, nothing can go wrong there, oh wait, just maybe, just the slightest, smallest, ridiculously tiniest, 0.000000001% of a maybe there might be a bug in the server, but no, not ESO, I mean they have done millions of online games, oh wait....nah must be me.

I have had this problem since the start of my ESO adventures, and judging by the comments months ago, it doesn't look like there will much changes taking place anytime soon, apart from DLC patches and Crown Store updates, which I would love to buy, but I mean if I only get to play the game on your schedule.

Any how, thank you for reading this, hope that you guys are able to find the issue and solve it, I will in the meantime play the game like a paranoid squirrel, waiting for that elusive, sneaky little, kick to happen.

    Oh wait... thats not it...

So this is what I get when I get disconnected/kicked from server:

    Hi Support,

I am not able to confirm a valid connection to your establishments EU server, located north of my current position.

Basically, I cannot log in again, or have you blocked me from the game, if so I would like my money back please.

    Thank you

My internet connection somehow miraculously disconnects ONLY when I'm logging in or during a load-screen yet works seamlessly in high speed out of game... what could be causing this disruption?
  • ZOS_MollyH
    Hey @Coezzy !

The screenshots were requested to see the exact message you are receiving upon disconnect, as it was a little confusing determining just what exactly was happening.

While your internet connection as a whole may be speedy and seamless, sometimes the way your ISP connects to our game specifically may need some troubleshooting to it.

From looking into your account information, you may need to contact your ISP directly regarding ESO traffic. Sometimes when a new large patch is released, ISPs may not recognize the traffic and you may result in the disconnecting issues you're experiencing.

In the meantime, we will be sure to raise this with our Engineers. Please try contacting your ISP for assistance with connectivity issues once you have completed the basic troubleshooting. Thank you!

Here's my thoughts on whats going on...

While usually people think about these things as being one "Megaserver" it doesn't neccessarily mean thats one server only (and by server I mean the software part that runs a service). There are multiple servers involved here, and the login server is probably the same that "assigns" a specific character to a specific "world" server. For the most part, this world server is working mostly... good (although I got 2 DCs while in world yesterday within a 10-15 min time frame)

So what may be happening is that the connection between the server that is relaying the information about the character to the world/instance server is timing out, thus we get disconnected.

Just speculating though... as for the cause, its on ZOS to determine it and fix it.

I don't believe its an external network problem, because while I'm in the world/instance server, everything seams fine (at least for me)

Well once again, if me telling you what the issue is and stating what it said and you still need a screenshot, then this is a hopeless issue. I am so SAD that I invested hard earned money, time and endless amounts of headaches into this game, although it was fun, its just not worth it anymore.

    Hi community and support,

I want to thank the support team for creating my forum account quite quickly after submitting my ticket. Thank you for that. And I know you are also working on my issue stated below (ticket submitted 151007-000031).

    - Played ESO happily without issues up to yesterday (06.10.) approx. 2230 GMT. Logged off and went to bed.

    - At approximately 0400 GMT (07.10.) I went to log in again. (Yes, I'm currently on off work and hooked on my NB  )

    - I had a crash report generated upon starting the game, which I ignored, because the game loaded and I was able to login. In hindsight that might have not been a good idea, due to that info now missing. (Maybe I can retrieve this from somewhere?)

    - Here comes the problem: After selecting my character, the "LOGGING IN; Requesting character load...." box pops up but after a minute or so, I get logged out and sent back to the login screen with the message box: "ERROR; An error has occurred. Please wait for a few minutes and log in again.

    - My measures so far: 1. Restart computer 2. Restart Internet Connection 3. Repair and verify files (no errors) 4. Reading about solutions on the internet and tried everything except sacrificing the neighbors cat to Molag Bal to drop connection anchors on my PC.

    - I play ESO Unlimited from STEAM if that helps and my internet connection is via my mobile phone. Don't laugh, it works and I'm abroad (Cyprus) and don't have a WiFi router here. Downloaded last patch on Tuesday with no problems. Internet works fine and other MMO games work too. Bear in mind, I played ESO just minutes before going to bed without issues, just hours later the problem occurred. Can't find a fault with the ISP currently. At least I can't.

    - Attached you'll find my Game Consultant Report and a screenshot to give you the basic idea.

Thank you all for reading this and for your helpful information regarding this issue in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Oliver

It may be so but, I'm not a network engineer, I don't have any level of competence to determine exactly where the problem is, its also in your interest to do so, otherwise, we and others will just give up. I believe this issue may be affecting mostly users from Europe (I might be wrong though), and just another traceroute, while I'm already at the "world/instance" server (as in, character already successfully loaded, and usually dont have any problems)

They seem to take different routes, and the failling one is going through AT&T, while the other one isnt. I find this odd indeed, since all ZOS IP addresses are in the same network. I will send a mail to my ISP regarding this issue, but knowing how slow these things escalate, specially because it involves different companies and contracts between those involved, I really don't see this issue being solved anytime soon...

    Hi @Hyperplexed !

We have seen reports of players using Vodafone ISP experiencing similar disconnects and loading issues. On the official Vodafone forums from about a year ago, there was a thread where an employee of Vodafone was able to replicate this issue.

We do advise contacting them and advising them of this.

Are you experiencing issues at certain times of day? Is it the same problem during the evening (peak usage time) as it is during the day or early morning?

Unfortunately I can confirm, that Vodafone is throttling the traffic of ESO.

IMHO it is not very likely that Vodafone will stop this ***. If changing your ISP is not an option, you will have use a VPN to tunnel the traffic of ESO through the routers of Vodafone.

I found an unconventional solution for myself and maybe it will work for you too.

After countless hours today, trying to find a solution to my "Requesting Character Load" problem, I stumbled upon a service called Battleping.com

Only tried the trial up to now, but as I downloaded and activated it, *pooof* logging in with my main char.

Downside of this solution is, if you want to have it permanently, you'll have to pay for their service. The trial is 30 days free and disconnects you every 20 mins from the Battleping servers. I'll see what happens when they disconnect after I have already entered the game. With a bit of luck I will only need Battleping to get me in and 30 days is hopefully enough time for new updates / patches that fix that problem in future.

For now I'm just going to enjoy the game for an hour or two. :)

    EDIT:

After 20 minutes Battleping disconnects and sends you right back to the Login Screen. Not a "real" solution so far. Just a crutch I guess...

How did you come to that conclusion? I mean, I'm willing to accept that there might be problems within Vodafone's Network and routing, but throttling ESO seems a bit far fetched to me. Did using a VPN solves your issue?

    EDIT:
Ok, so if using that service (battleping.com) worked, then my guess is that it is a VPN service and its indeed throttling...

    EDIT2:
Nope... VPN doesn't solve my issue...

I don't think that Vodafone is throttling online games like ESO on purpose, IMO they are greedy but they are not stupid.

However during prime time they throttle "low priority" traffic like filesharing, torrents. And unfortunately their routers consider at least one of the tcp/udp ports ESO is using as "low priority" traffic, resulting in packet loss and connection resets.

After I managed to play without issues using services like Battleping, I decided to get a Linux VPS located at Frankfurt/M and setup my own VPN server. As long as I am using my VPN, I am able to play without issues. As soon as I try without, I am getting disconnected like hell.

Hmmm... there must be something more to it... I never had this particular issue, started only on Saturday. I think there might actually exist some network problem. I'm very inclined to think its on Vodafone's end yes, but I dont think it has nothing to do with network bandwidth limit.

Also, I did tried a VPN Service as I mentioned before, and I still had the same issues (problems logging and getting DCed while on load screens). I checked the routing and it was not going through Vodafone (it was in Europe though, cant recall exactly where)

this is not Vodafone, I don't use that service as i dont live in that country. This thread has gone from it being an Issue on ESO/ZOS side to vodafone, please support help fix the problem.

    First it was my connection

Now its vodafone which i dont even use.

whats next, blaming it on the Molag Bal.

I mean really get your *** working for those who experience problems on a day to day basis. If your system is built in a way that everybody should use only one specific ISP, then you did a very poor job.

    PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE

Many ISPs don't actually own their own infrastructure, and they make contracts with other companies that do... and thats how the internet works... I'm not a Telia or AT&T client, yet, my routing goes through their networks... thats by definition The Internet.

The best way to determine the problem is really if you at least provide ZOS with some network diagnostics, which was what I did, and then I came to the conclusion, that yes, the connection between Vodafone and Telia is probably the reason why I'm feeling these issues. I'm still not 100% sure, but at least in my case I got a glimpse of what might be the problem.

If you are so sure that the problem is not your ISP, then providing a traceroute to ZOS servers will only give you more power, you will be able to say to ZOS: "there you go... you see? its not my problem!". You don't go to a doctor and say "Fix me" until you provide the doctor with details about your ailment.
