Alasan's Plot not finishing

When I attempt to "Trap Alasan's soul, he says "What are you doing?, Nooooo" but nothing happens. I can do it over and over. I've tried logging out and the whole bit, but no luck. This is not allowing me to finish the Caldwell's Almanac portion of the quest line. So I'm stuck. I have opened several tickets about it, but I get the same cut and paste response about logging out for 5 minutes. Will someone please actually help me with this for chrit's sakes?
