Error Code 318: Excessive messaging Xbox One

I kid you not, I got booted from the server for "spamming" chat. How in God's name are you gonna spam chat with a none existent chat? I mean this was so stupid I was laughing my arse off. I mean seriously. I had just turned in a quest and was headed towards the next when nothing worked. Usually I know when something is going wrong I cant pull out my weapon and swing (how I test) and couldnt open my character screen to level up. And right as I got to the next quest objective I got booted. Now I thought maybe it was just couldnt connect to the game server...get those like crazy. But no...I get Error 318 You have been dropped from the server because you hit the message rate limit. Please avoid excessive messaging (i.e. spamming)...and as I said How in God's name can you get dropped from the server for spamming a none existent chat? I even checked to insure it wasnt voice chat but I know it wasnt...even that was disconnected but wanted to check everything. Does this mean they might actually finally add a chat for keyboards into the game? Be easier for guild recruitment and joining groups for dungeon runs etc

And when I said I had tried to swing my sword I tried that while running towards the next area but I had tried to level up first but it wouldnt work. And there was at least 20 seconds in between so I know it wasnt that

It's the excessive message rate limit. It can boot you for many things. I've gotten booted for crafting too fast, trying to mount in pvp, or trying to swap skills when it wouldn't let me. lol

It's a leftover thing from the PC version (which is what I play btw).

The excessive messaging area actually has nothing to do with chat, it's a generic term for too much data hitting the server at the same time from your client. At some point the data you have sent to the server has got stuck in the net somewhere, it suddenly breaks free and hits the server in one big hit, boom error message.

ZOS really should change "messaging" to "packets"...or something along that line.
Just so this kind of thread doesn't pop up weekly.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning that in any insulting way, mate.
The reason for your post is very understandable...as have been all the others on this same topic.
I wasn't saying anything bad about this thread itself.


I really just meant that it would be smart for ZOS to change the wording of that one particular error code to stop people making fun of them for an obviously stupidly worded error message.

nah mate, I took it as a joke which is why I worded my reply to come across in a joking way as well. And I agree at rewording it entirely or simply removing it and sticking with the "cannot connect to game server" error.
