Out of all the problems, that is one of the silliest reasons to leave a game I have ever heard (no offence to your stupid friend). You can whisper someone from another faction and see if they want to duel any where in Cyrodiil. It's nothing official, but you can still fight someone 1v1 if you want to. There are some players from different factions who are dedicated duelers and meet up just to do this. Sometimes you need to get creative to find solutions if a game doesn't offer something you want. Or you can be a big baby and leave.

    lol

It is. That's what I miss about in this game yet: we, the players show a great lack of creativity.

Maybe because the environment is so rich and polished and people just eat what will be served? But that's of course speculation.

uhhh... its not the same thing... maybe there are ppl who feel the need to have a more competitive environment, with leaderboards and what not... just because you don't understand other people's reasons, doesn't enable you to start calling them stupid... if anything, it only shows your poor lack of judgement and foresight.

I really don't think calling someone stupid for leaving a game that is not giving them what they expect/need. Some people would love having just this in the game. While for you, this may not be a reason to leave, for others it is.

Honestly your a fool if you don't think this is a big deal. It adds a ton of content and what should be a small amount of coding. There has been countless situations where me and my friends are waiting for some one and like damn dueling would be a nice way to pass the time. Ever waited 10+ min for a boss respawn would be nice to duel while waiting. Right now dueling in this game requires cross faction guilds which is causes all other kinds of problems in the alliance war. Finally ever seen a D-bag in your our faction talking hard core smack and just wanted to drop the gauntlet in his face?

I think that the best way for this to be implemented in the game would be to have the Arena in Imperial City used as a PVP arena.

We are fighting one another for the invading Daedra/Molag Bal's amusement. Put a quest in each alliance sewer base to sign up to fight. The arena already exists, with some changes it would be able to be done.

I 100% agree. I only said this because I don't believe this "friend" exists. I'm too sceptic because I've seen countless people claiming their friend(s) left the game because of X reason. I understand people want features, but using B.S to get it does not help my mood.
That said, I wouldn't mind a PVP arena either.

Because nobody has a 'friend' that has left this game. Because most players that ever played this game are still around. Because if some players have left for some reason or other those players were never anyone's friend anyways.

PVP in ESO can be pretty glitchy. Aural and visual cues are often culled (even when the client is not stressed.) Other net code problems abound. General skill and gear bugs abound. Animation cancelling can cut off expected visual cues. Multiple attacks, from one source, can land at once.

This game needs arenas so players can get used to these issues and get a feel for PVP.

Running around in zergs does not offer a good learning experience. Not running in a zerg and dying in 2.3 seconds also does not offer a good learning experience. Arenas would offer a good learning experience in addition to many other benefits.

A lot of people have one, or a couple, things that are all important and must be there to consider playing. Duels, Auction House, class balance, text chat, bug fixes, whatever. If the game, any game, does not meet this to an acceptable level, the player should move on. They are the "one issue" gamer, and they need to find a game that does what they are interested in.

For example, when I talk about ESO with my friends, I talk like there is no PVP. None of my friends would have any interest in ESO PVP, and would simply counter that ESO does not have PVP. All they care about are raids. That's it. That's all they do. They meet once a week in WoW, do a raid, then log off. It is all very organized and formal and I have no idea whether this is fun or a manifestation of some undocumented form of insanity.

Big deal or not, it is not a small amount of anything. For the last 150 years, give or take, I have "coded" everything from AI overlords bent upon domination to universal translators used in a galactic invasion. With my vast experience, that spans 10 planets in 6 different solar systems, I would never say that it should be a "small amount of coding"*. Sorry.

Theres already dota or lol, not to mention true dueling game called Mortal Kombat X, it isnt getting better than that, perfectly balanced, jumping, blocking, special moves to practice, fatalities, keep right distance etc. In ESO's kind of game dueling just leads to nerf/whine posts, so less players know, the better. I'd like to add I watched how they tried to balance Rift like couple year, every month when new balance patch came, there was always like thousand things wrong with it.

People have a right to quit over things that are important to them. Does not mean that they are stupid or a baby.

I would love to see arena style play also. They are in other games and make for more fun PvP than what we have in the game currently. (In my opinion).

In fairness we really should have an even better arena.

I mean it would be so cool if the arena had 1v1, 2v2, etc up to 10v10 where the winner(s) play on and get crazy amounts of rewards or loot for owning the sh*& out of it.

Seriously how good would that be!!!!!

I would like an arena and dueling as well. However, I don't believe your friend exists because you said he went back to WoW for pvp. If I had a friend that got their pvp fix from WoW, well, I don't think I could be friends with such a person.

Well if you want to play with those friends your only chance for the foreseeable future is to go play wow, think the last thing I heard from the dev's on this subject is nothing planned at this time, things could change but at the snails pace ZOS work at any major changes will be a long long way out, not happening anytime soon if ever.

He does exist. I've told him multiple times that arenas/duels were probably coming, but now he has finally succumbed to wow again.

He must be one of those rose tinted nostalgic guys. I don't think anyone could pay me to go back to WoW. It did help with my insomnia though. Used to conk out in front of the keyboard from boredom while playing in the latter years.

The Elder Scrolls Online will probably never introduce instancied arena and battleground excatly for the reason it's NOT World of Warcraft.

They are planning different things to offer a PVP fix to players, but I'd not expect anytime soon any sort of e-sport in ESO.
this friend was certainly right to return to World of Warcraft is if it's the experience he wants to get. That's why there is different games on the market.

I'm very happy that ESO is not going the WOW route, and still favourise non instancied PVP like Cyrodiil or Imperial City. they could add a Gurubashi-like arena, where anyone could fights and where tournament could be organised (non instancied) and we still have the Justice system part2 currently conceptualised (probably in a different area) which could lead to some intersting PVP, but still in the ESO style!

TLDR: ESO is not World of Warcraft, and a player should choose the game he prefers for the experience he prefers. If it's WOW, then let's it be. But ESO should never try to ressemble to WOW.

I disagree. Many players think WoW is a bad game, but it has its strong points as well. The ESO devs should look at all kind of other MMORPG's and implement their best features into ESO.

I have never said World of Warcraft is a bad game. it's just not the same at all. Not same spirit. And I hope that WOW stay WOW and ESO stay ESO.
Having instancied arena, battleground and e-sport like in World of Warcraft would be very detrimental for ESO.

    1. Would drain away PVPer from Cyrodiil, I,perial City
    2. Would enlight some build/class/abilities/champion point imbalance that would lead to a lot more of whine, problems, re-balancing and will probably end by removing the variety of playstyle that ESO is currently offering.

Leave to WOW what belongs to WOW ,and to ESO what belongs to ESO. And if you desire is e-sport, go play WOW, GW2, Destiny, Evolve or a Moba. it's nice that some games do things differently. Do not mean it's better. its just different. And I'm glad that ESO offer a more immersive / sandboxy form of PVP.

Still they could add duels. I agree. And a place where to fight face to face in a more friendly way. But let's not do it the WOW-way, please.

It's no secret that players crave more PvP options apart from war in Cyrodiil. Perhaps someday we will get dueling but there are other ways to consider, like the following:

    1. Zenimax originally planned to add an Enforcer system to create open-world PvP between cops and robbers. It also serves as a way to play capture the flag.
    2. Bar brawls. Players can challenge each other (even wager on the winner) to a fist fight in a tavern in any town and the NPCs and other players could all watch and hoot as it happens.
    3. As stated, arena combat. Perhaps someday, along with that person wanting PvP tourneys.
    4. The ability to murder any player just as if they were an NPC if properly toggled on both sides... Oh wait that's part of the Enforcer system if I recall correctly.
    5. We can throw objects at each other for kicks... Oh wait emotes do that.

But yeah plenty of ways to bring more PvP into the game but for now Zenimax has bigger fish to fry. Patience is a virtue...

You seem you would go as far as to murder somebody just to get duels in the game (not that you're the only one).
