White Gold Tower Dragonknights

I was at the Dragonknights in White Gold Tower and I can't figure out what the red glowy buff they get when they are close to one another, does. I did Piercing Javelin and Crushing Shock on Micella and she took the same amount of damage irrespective of the buff. I checked Cordius' Steel Tornado and I took the same damage irrespective of the red glowy buff. Any thoughts on what the buff does?
