CP, VR Levels, and Gear

I've noticed there are a lot of complaints on the forums about IC raising VR levels, introducing new gear that needs to be obtained, and rewarding players who have a hefty chunk CP. However, I am confused. Don't all MMO's have progression in levels, gear, and skills? I don't recall a MMO that has not introduced new gear, raised the level cap, or created new skills when new content comes out to give the players something to work towards. That's character progression and investment gaming 101.

Personally, I enjoy getting new gear, working on hitting new CP unlocks, and leveling up my VR; that's what an MMO takes and that's what is rewarding about playing. It's the investment in getting those things that makes the time enjoyable.

For those who are frustrated, why is this something unexpected in an MMO? Have you played another MMO that does not have these elements?

IC has made grinding for CP and Vet levels a lot more fun.

I leveled from vet 2 -16 on a new character in IC in 3 days solo (about 1h 30 per level with scrolls). I gained 100k Tel Var Stones while doing it, which I used to craft some vet 16 gear when I had finished.

Compare that with before the patch when you needed to do Cadwel silver and then grind zombies for 20hours with relatively little gain other than exp.

As for new gear I don't see that as a problem, it might have been a little too soon on the consoles. The game had only been out 3 months but as you said all MMOs drop near gear to work towards with new expansions.
