Why Doesn't Glass Armor Look Like Glass?

I was really looking forward to this new style but it is really ugly and looks nothing like glass. The more you improve it, the worse it looks. The only thing positive about it is the weapons. I'm so disappointed. :(

When you say "it looks nothing like glass" do you mean "it looks nothing like real world glass" or do you mean "it looks nothing like the fantasy Tamrielic material made from a volcanic form of malachite which is referred to as glass, but which is not actual glass"?

It looks like iron with a little bit of moss on it. There's nothing about it that resembles the iconic look of glass armor and weapons.

I was only asking because I've seen people on the forums complain that it doesn't look like the traditional TES glass armour, and I've seen people on the forums complain that it doesn't look like real world glass... Just curious which of the 2 camps you were in (and ready to correct educate you if you turned out to be in the "it doesn't look like real world glass" camp lol).

To this day I still can't get my head around how people can immerse themselves in a TES game running around with armour like that.

This isn't aimed at you in the slightest, but something that was always amusing on the Skyrim forums was people coming on complaining about this and that being immersion breaking, then they'd post their female character that looked like she had just walked off the Paris catwalk, wearing nothing but what others could construe as underwear type armour.

I so completely agree with this.

One thing I really like about ESO is the female animations. They look so much better than any previous TES title. When my character walks, it looks like she's walking with purpose. I like that.

Armor should be armor. I would prefer even more realistic armors. Less plates (which would actually weigh a ton) and more mail, or reinforced leathers.

And back on topic, glass armor should not look like "glass" as we know it because it's NOT glass. It's malachite, which looks like this:

    tumblr_nsfa85DABF1tzfotko1_500.jpg

Which begs the question: How DO you make armor out of soft stone? Maybe something like this (real life stone armor):

if its light armor that is skinny i have no problem with it, medium or heavy armor though is ment to be protective and not some kind of linen...

Don't discount linen as armour. The Greeks used a linen armour known as linthorax which was very effective. The exact method of making it isn't known, but the most common theory is that it was made from about 15-20 sheets of linen glued together. Modern attempts to recreate it using materials that would have been available in ancient times have shown that it would have been quite capable of stopping arrows or slashes from swords.

You're talking about immersion in a high fantasy environment where people can teleport, become invisible, and shoot fire \ lightning \ ice out of various orifices. The immersion people are looking for is immersion in an idealized fantasy setting, not realism. Some people simply let their idealism gravitate towards a visual aesthetic rather than functional realism.

Personally, I prefer the more attractive characters, female and male. I'll get to play a character bundled in 10 layers of protection this winter, my entertainment should be an escape from that situation.

Being able to shoot fire from your finger tips etc isn't the context in which I was putting my point across. However, if you're gonna go onto a forum and start complaining about immersion breaking things such as optional fast travel, npcs fighting dragons with their bare fists, a skeletal horse (Dawnguard) etc etc, then why wouldn't they have an issue running around some snowy mountain top wearing nothing but underwear?

That aside, I completely agree with your sentiment because I don't go on forums complaining about immersion breaking events and items whilst running around with a scantly clad female that resembles nothing within the game world around me. Still couldn't do it, though. I like my characters to remain semi relevant to the world I'm running around in. Hence why I can't understand others being able to run around with a character that sticks out like a sore thumb.
