✭✭✭✭✭If you don't care about staying subbed in the meantime, then just unsubscribe. When the release date is announced resubscribe the day before it comes out. That way you'll have a month to test it out to see if it's worth buying for good, and you get 1500 crowns towards the price of it for that one month's sub. Most likely the price will be 2500 crowns like the IC was, so depending on whether you're already sitting on any crowns you may or may not then have to buy some more (or sub for a second month) to pay for the rest of it.

What about being incredibly unfair that it draws a line between you and your friends based on who pays more?

Pretty standard, doubt there's been many games offering free expansions.
I've been subbed for a year (I don't know why in retrospect) I'm not planning on staying sub'd but I'm ok with buying content if its going to keep me entertained (grind equal entertainment) for 3 months or more. Less than that and I'd be paying for nothing.
