Crafting VR16 gear

ZOS wanted to make it so it would be just as difficult crafting gear as it would be for PvPers to acquire it. Well they made it more difficult. So far I have acquired a full set of VR15 gear and 1 piece of a VR16, and I haven't found enough ingots to craft a full set of VR15 yet. Right now it's a ton easier purchasing your full set of VR16 gear with Tel Var stones than it is crafting it. ZOS you need to severely reduce the requirements to craft VR16 gear because in it's current state it is by far easier to just buy it with Tel Var stones. Sorry for those who are crafters. You're essentially being punished for doing more work.

I could not agree with you more. Crafters are being punished.

Use your TV stones to buy mats instead of using them to buy gear, and decon all of the VR15-16 stuff that drops for you. I haven't made myself new gear yet (I'm still rocking my old VR14 stuff until I get some VR16 monster helms I'm looking for), but between deconning stuff and my TV stones I've got enough mats to craft a full set of VR15 stuff, or a couple of pieces of VR16, and I haven't really spent any time actually farming for gear or TV stones - I've just done the dailies in IC a few times, and run a few group dungeons scaled to VR16. If I was actively farming I would probably be able to craft a full set of VR16 stuff by now.

I don't agree with the massive jump in mats required for VR16 gear vs VR15 gear (a 900% increase? Really ZOS?), but once you start actually collecting the mats it won't take as long to get there as you think.

please @nimander99 enlighten us all because I am fed up with the grind they have made the game as of the recent patch. I have been playing since beta phase 1 and have NEVER thought about quitting until now. I just cant do the grind no more. crafters want 200k PER piece they craft...... unless you have the mats. I try to farm the mats and only ever find heavy armor or medium armor and very VERY rarely do I find light armor to decon for mats.

I know I know I can spend 100 stones to get the silk but thats 15k stones for ONE piece of gear....... thats 105k stones to get 7/7 pieces of gear crafted if I just buy the silks since my luck since IC launched for finding light armor has been utter crap.

At first I wanted the pve sets because lets face it the new pvp gear just flat out blows unless you wear medium armor and want to rock that shield breaker set. Then I realized that my luck in normal wgt and icp has been CRAP (beat it 12 times no set items) then I tried vwgt, lololololololololololololoololoolololol , I have 10 attempts (attempts is the keyword) under my belt and the groups always fail at the inhibitor but up until that fight in those 10 attempts no set item has ever dropped for me. So that new PVE gear is out of the question as is the original build idea.

So please enlighten us all (more so for myself) as to why we should be ok with the new grind and why there is such a disparity...because I am literally at my end with all the grinding and horrible HORRIBLE RNG

I hear ya @OGLezard , I do... and maybe I've become O.K with the grind because the alternative is quitting (I acknowledge that's a possibility). On PC the mats I've been buying are around 300 to 400 gold a pop, and yes its harder to get wood cloth and leather than metal.

For me I guess the reason I'm ultimately O.K with the grind is because I'm playing a lot more now that I have in the previous couple months. But if it was, say 20 mats each to craft a new set, then everyone and their sisters mother would be decked out, I.C would be empty of all but the pvp-ers/completionists and the economy would take a dive again.

I guess what I'm saying is this, I was frustrated like you the first couple weeks of I.C, but as I've slowly created my new gear and actually made some gold along the way, the sense of accomplishment I've started to gain has been nice, and has reminded me of the accomplishment I got from mmo's in the early days. Plus I've earned a buch of CP's along the way :p

Anyways, I hope that helps. Although sometimes it is O.K to take a break, even from things you love doing, as I basically did over the summer.

Edit Note: I still played forums over the summer though, I'll NEVER leave you, Forum's ;)

The one thing I want them to do is improve the decon rate. If you've got a novice blacksmith deconstructing a piece of gear you get one Rubenium (sp?) ingot. If you've got a master blacksmith deconstructing the same gear you get... one ingot. Really? FFS, why did I bother spending 2 skill points to improve my rate of extraction?! If they did that then the grind to get enough mats would still be long but in my view tolerably so.

@nimander99 I agree with you 100%! I love the accomplishments I feel from earning more gold now for selling the stuff I dont want and the bonus to CP I have gained just for doing literally nothing but trying to craft gear. The sad part is that I just dont know if I can do the grind lol Maybe I just need to look at the bright side which is how much more gold I am making now :P

I don't really play ESO anymore...I grind and die in the Imperial City sewers...I grind Craglorn for the daily crafting writ materials I need to keep ahead on those and hope I get a glass armor fragment from a writ. I miss playing ESO when it was...fun to play, foraging for materials in Craglorn and grinding the sewers...not so much fun.

My "play time" generally consists of foraging Craglorn 1-2 hours then my friends log in and we grind the sewers. I want to play ESO not spend all my time grinding for materials so I can have VR16 gear.

Don't know if this is really helpful, but there was a bit of discussion on this topic on ESO Live last week. The gist was ZOS will NOT be changing the numbers needed to craft, but also the situation will mysteriously improve with the next DLC. All part of their grand scheme. I wonder if that grand scheme accounted for all the crafters who quit before Orisinium gets here? :/

Yeah, obviously (at least to me) there will be new gear to get, so the old craftables will be set to the normal tables or we will have nodes for the new mats in Orsinium.

I don't forsee them selling anything that could possibly lead to in game gold i.e mat stacks that you can convert to items then sell and make gold. It would at least be against the trend I've followed in the CS thus far. I think there will be a new gear grind and the new mats (IC) will have nodes in Orsinium.

Meh, difficulty is fine as it is. You want vr16 heavy armor? Trade cloth/leather/wood for it. And so on. Get a lucky drop? Sell it and buy mats.

Now what really does disappoint me is, 5pc vr16 hundings bonus is exactly the same as vr14. I feel like, why did I even bother with the 500k for this. It should at the very least go from 299 wpn dmg -> 300wpn dmg, just so I don't feel completely scammed :)

LOL, like I've got enough spare VR15 gear I've crafted to send to decon. ;D

I had heard this though, the other day I was talking to someone who crafted a VR16 piece of armor and forgot to put a trait on it.. What a downer.. They got 7 or 8 ingots back.. 120+ down the drain, a 60K mistakes. Ouch.

The best way my buddies and I know how to get enough mats for the vet 16 gear is to decon any vet 15-16 gear to get the mats for it or just spending all your Tel Var on the new mats (100-1 mat)

Right now it requires 10 times the amount of VR15 gear for VR16, this is way too harsh and it is a ton easier to purchase armor than it is to craft. I should note, only 2 of my armor pieces are crafted as well as my weapons so this crafting issue doesn't affect me as. However I do notice the huge difference in difficulty between acquiring gear via Tel Var stones vs crafting it.

Finally got my full V16 set a couple days ago. It wasn't really the most thrilling experience, which is a stark contrast to when you finally get That One Undaunted Helm or some other nonsense with the perfect trait and armor type. No, crafting armor is now characterized by intense bouts of anxiety as you obsessively check to make sure EVERYTHING is correct on every piece, because something as simple as a poorly-timed UI bug now sets you back days of gameplay. And I thought dealing with Nirncrux was bad, this is some fresh new hell I could have never imagined. You don't even get that much payout for all the struggle, either. I'm pretty sure the new tier of potion and food buff are more influential than all my other gear combined. It just seems so backwards to how it used to be. Crafting used to be so enjoyable, I could do it for guildies on a whim, there was almost no stress because outside of Nirncrux nothing was over-expensive and it was generally a more experimental time. People could play around with builds, try new stuff, swap out this or that piece, change things up based on a new helm drop, etc.

IDK I'm incredibly skeptical that having "parity between crafted and dropped gear" is even something desirable at this point. Maybe if it were just to draw people to the content until the next DLC comes out (and the likely farmable nodes that will come with it), but right now it's just so stressful. Heaven forbid someone wants glass armor, if you can even craft it, those mats are still probably going for 10k a pop.

Just to Clarify my unappreciative attitude for the insanely high new amounts: my guild offers armor crafting to our members for free (using our own guild materials, rarely do we have to make people provide mats), we made probably 60 suits of armor last month alone. Its what we like to do.

I just feel like these new amounts are taking that ability away from my guild.
We do it to show appreciation to our members. To help create bonds and friendships.

IC has been out for a week and you don't have a full set of v16 crafted gear?! What's that you say, they took your binky too?! How dare they!

This is where a rational discussion about time investment, target audience, typical player demographics, and expectations might have served you better. The whole "lul you an infant" thing isn't the greatest sell on the market right now.

I've got a weapon and a few armor pieces made, do a few sewer/district runs a week at most. I just deconn everything, buy mats with tv stones, and trade the mats I don't need for the ones I do with other players. I agree it's a lot of mats but, eh, I've played stuff that makes this grind look like nothing.

Also I was thinking the mysterious fix come Orsinium would be that they would just add nodes. But I don't know.

Sad part is you know ZOS isn't gonna listen cause even PTS players told them that litteraly 10X more cost than VR15 was stupid and how crafted gear is no were near as powerful as PvP gear or dropped gear and saddly we wont see any cost reduction till Orsinium a few months from now when they raise the cap to VR18 and when VR18 gear will cost like 250 ingots for one piece.

I belive ZOS is doing just like the game "destiny" before loses many many many players. I'm a crafter and i'm realy disapointed witn imperial city. Theres no fun in crafting, i dont wanna expand 3 months in the sewer doing the same thing over and over to craft a chest and a boot. I dont know when the next expansion will come out but i can tell you i wont be playing eso to see it if ZOS dont start to show respect for it players. Playing eso isnt fun anymore... Waiting for fallout 4...

Don't raise such obtuse comments like this as it doesn't serve you well (thank UrQuan for pointing it out for you mate)

    I agree with this ^

Edit: You may or may not know this but crafted vr15-16 gear does yield the full amount of decon resources.

Does this mean that I get 130 ingots back if I deconstruct my greatsword?

LOL, that would be too easy. You get ONE mat back, no matter how many it took to make. Ain't we havin' fun? >:)

just trade the materials you don't need/want with guildmembers... it rlly isn't that hard, almost at the point i can gear up my second toon... and i honestly do not run sewers that much. maybe 1 - 2 hours per day
