Drowning...

I remember playing this when first came out, wasn't too impress with it. So I stop playing it, then when it came free to play, though about giving this another shot. So everything was cool until my first death of drowning lol. It doesn't give you enough time to react and some places is silly that you shouldn't be drowning. Not sure if you guys ever played on Daggerfall, going to that island just the moment you step out of that house would take you there by boat. Anyway one quest, locating a treasure and finally run, something about Island with Iron Face, so I went north on the road to NW and noticed there a broken bridge there. I couldn't figure out how to cross it and so I decided to swim around that first island and can see that second bridge is intact and I started to drown. Dead in two seconds lol, that just lame.

Does anyone finding this annoying? Least give you more time to react and not sure if they going to correct this or not. Anyway this drowning issues made me wanna quit again.

Do you mean slaughterfish? I didn't know you could drown in this game.

Are you on the wrong forum? I have never drowned in ESO. I genuinely don't think that its possible.

There some spots around the islands can kill you fast, no there was no slaughterfish nearby that I know of. This place is lvl five and I am seven with over 3k hit points and drown in two seconds. I remember around the big island of Bleakfall just off Davonwatch, somewhere up north of that island can kill you fast as well. Funny nothing in the water seem dangerous, just off limit zones.

If you ever played World of Warcraft, you will noticed when swim too far off from some part of inlands, you get fatigue warning and give you enough time to react and swim back. Well in ESO it doesn't.

Slaughterfish. You even get an achievement for it. That's a mechanic to prevent reaching places you should not do via swimming, or to get you out of places you are unable to leave.

Where ever you think you did "drown", go there with a new character that not yet has that achievement, swim there, and check whether that death awards the "slaughtered" achievement. If yes, it was slaughterfish.

My bet is on the fishies.

Hmm well I haven't noticed anything, didn't hear anything or see anything. Too bad we cant swim underwater to see what going on down there. There can be a lot of interests underwater too. Argonians can breath underwater, but many was puzzled with ESO with their special ability.

Yes it said Slaughtered when I died, but no fishes lol.

Not going to be any underwater stuff in here, it's already been discussed. Too much to try and get the movement and combat to work in 3 dimensions.

Some water is not intended for swimming. It's not an issue, it's a feature. If ESO implemented it differently than WOW, that can only be a positive;)

Not trying to be rude, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

1000s of games have this feature, new and old. Almost every Zelda game has this. Plenty of other MMOs have it. Almost every Elder Scrolls game has it.

There is no "too much". Developers can develop anything. I know this because I am a developer. You get asked to develop something, and you develop it (whether its easy or requires jumping through hoops makes no difference -- you develop it).

They haven't made this a priority, but someday they might.

As to the specific technical issue, it's not any harder than getting above ground combat and animations working. It's not a special case. Water is just a transparent texture, and/or an effect placed over the "camera".

Yes, new animations will need to be made, but the same was said when they started developing the current game.

As a retired former developer I appreciate your "can do" attitude. However, I think the reality is more like developers can develop "great things", as opposed to "anything". Everything has limits;) I think I'm agreeing with you when I say adding "underwater" play is much more a business decision than a technical problem.

Who cares about fighting underwater? I just want to swim underwater in order to find hidden caves and secrets.

That should be easy to pull off. Just gray out the ability bars when someone gets into the water.

You can't drown as you can't swim underwater, but if you try and swim across deep water you get eaten by slaughter fish, very quickly. I think its a mechanism to control players movement, so you can't swim across the ocean to somewhere you're not supposed to be able to access. I think they should add a visible giant fish like on Jak & Daxter tho, just so its more clear what is happening.

Actually might be kind of neat if they did something like the dive spots from Fable.
They could do it so that as your fishing you may occasionally pull up a corked bottle that has a treasure map inside that will lead to a dive spot that would yield the usual assortment of generic goods but also have a chance of rewarding a rare fish.

Well, if we can't have underwater play, they should at least implement water play.

The R&D team of ZOS should be asked to do some homework.

Play Twilight Princess, etc. Swim around underwater.

Experiment with underwater implementation. Muck around.

A lot of players want it, and it's out there, it's been done, and it adds a ton of fun, potential immersion and new gameplay opportunities.

They've had their Crown Store fun. "haha", real funny guys with your new horse skins and cats and pumpkins. Real funny. They had their zerg fun with IC.

Now how about some actual gameplay expansion (as opposed to just new skins, areas or quests); pressing E at stuff and watching something happen will get old without some new actual gameplay and ways to interact with the world.
