Pets

@zenimaxeb17_ESO when will pets that assist with combat be incorporated in the game. I haven't purchased a pet because I find it useless for a pet to follow me and do nothing but be cute.

I never toggle those useless pets on. I do however summon my Clannfear or Twilight Matriarch when I want my pets to assist with combat...

With Spellcrafting there will be a Fire Atronach and a Dremora Lord that work the same way as Sorcerer pets. If Spellcrafting ever does make it into the game, there are sure to be more.

I like them for certain characters to add to my roleplay. My orc battlemage rescued a mudcab from pit fighting in Stros M'kai. Turns out that despite the orc is afraid of heights, the mud crab is not.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

This is your answer OP. Because I think what you are asking for are called "summons" in this game. What they call "pets" in ESO are for looks only. So the only additional "summons" in the works are from spellcrafting who's ETA is TBD. But spellcrafting has a serious issue, it's going to be really hard to balance it.

No not really spellcrafting. For instance you have this deadly looking black Panther a pet that u don't have to use any spells points for and that doesn't have a duration to follow in game. They just watches you get murdered

In that case I believe the answer to your question is never. The existing non-combat pets will never assist us in combat.

Ok i'll admit, having a dog fight by my side would be pretty cool.
But I just want to go off the record and say I don't want to see "fighting pets" become so widespread. The game's fighting ability should only pertain to you and your skills, not what pokemon pet you can catch next.

But a hunting dog or conjured attronoch? Those would actually be fine if they were for a limited time.

Non-combat pets are very common in MMOs. In my experience, MMOs restrict fighting companions (pets/summons) to specific classes. So what you see in ESO is par for the course and it's why it's unlikely that fighting companions will be available to everyone, unless what's been said about spellcrafting is true; I haven't been following that.

Nooo. Please never implement more annoying combat pets into the game. Full respect to sorcs, but I hate pet builds, and I never want to have my screen cluttered with neon pink mudcrabs that pull aggro or little sparkly daedrats that squeak over and over and over... *shudders*

I paid a few hundred crowns for a dog because I thought he would assist me in combat like the dogs in Skyrim, but he's completely useless so I turned him off. It's a shame they are so pointless.

Sorc Daedric pets dies in combat. Granted we can spawn them again. What happens when other pets die in game? Same feature added to respawn or would we need to buy a new one from the crown store.
Most of those pets available are more viable with a ranger/scout class, like seen in game already. Too me would make more sense having the ability to charm wild creatures to aid in battle.

but then u would have to add the woodelf ability to do that then they would have to remap all the classes

Rather than remap classes, create & add a new one. Scout. Highly unlikely to ever eventuate.

I may have missed something but as far as I'm aware they've never said they intended to make pets fight, they've been in the game since the betas (the money was I believe the first) and they've always been purely cosmetic. What you're asking for sounds more like sorcerer summons.

As someone else mentioned it's fairly common for combat pets to be restricted to specific classes. Although that's not just in MMOs, it's fairly common in RPGs in general going all the way back to DnD. The exceptions being games like most of the TES series and Ultima Online where classes are not rigidly defined and you're more free to mix and match, meaning anyone can use combat pets/summons if they pick the right skills.

Personally I actually like having both in a game. I like pets in general and whilst combat pets are fun and can be useful there's usually more freedom with purely cosmetic pets because you don't have to worry about which one is best for your build or how to acquire and train them or what other skills/mechanics you're giving up to bring one. It means I could make my main a Templar to get the kind of skills she normally uses, and give her the pet panther she's had in every game where that's possible since Neverwinter Nights.
