Thoughts on being able to dual wield other weapons with our staves?

When using a staff, you only use 1 hand anyway (when using abilities, running etc). I can slightly understand not allowing people with staves to dual wield with a staff and a melee weapon, but at least let us dual wield with a shield.

I'm personally not against the idea of running around with a one hander and staff but I think it would be more appropriate if in the off hand we were holding another magical object like a book or relic.

So basically, you want to be able to use two weapon lines at the same time?

simply add a Diablo like wand+orb DW option for spellweaving chars.
    wand/crystal-orb = dagger (crit)
    scepter/shrunken head = hammer (pierce)
    no idea = swords (+%dmg)

Lol! Gandalf uses his staff more as a beating stick than a weapon that uses magic. :D

I don't want mechanics changes but I sure love how my NB looks when the SA light effects glitch when switching weapons and it looks like dual wielding a staff and a freaking red lightsaber. I would love for it to be permanent. Maximum Badassness!!!

The two-handed weapons balance the lack of an offhand by somewhat higher damage. If they were allowed an offhand item, they would gain traits/enchantments/set boni for it, thus skewing the balance, and requiring a bit (or lot) of rebalancing...

    That stated...

While I wouldn't want to see some offhand option added to current two-handed weapons, I -would- like to see a "spellsword" style weapon skill line, something like "One-handed and Magic", with a mix of weapon-based melee attacks and magic-based mid range and AoE attacks... offhand could be something like magic wands, runestones, whatever...

I liked that about past games, especially skyrim. Shield and magic in one hand, or sword and magic. Or if your really a bad ass, Conjuring sword and magic.

I like the idea of melee short staves, but like fist weapons, they need something to make them competitive to the weapons already in the game. I like poison for fist. Maybe acrobatic/athletic advantages for short staff? Faster attacks with a better chance to stun?

I think the staves in the game should be visually two-handed attacks just for stability. The way they attack in the game, it just seems like the best strategy is disarm by knocking the staff out of their hand or cutting their hand off.

I think cutting someone's hand off will work against any weapon.

I'd fully agree to a wand and shield combo, or orb or grimoire of some sort. A staff and shield in slight reality would be a bit cumbersome to wield effectively. Plus a staff has more powerful stats than a one handed weapon because it's considered 2 handed. So, something like a wand with another object would be fully acceptable. Not sure why it's not in the game already.

I mean I suppose you could use a dagger and shield right now, but then you lose a ton of good healing and offensive spells from the stave trees.

I think it's not in the game because there are no wands or "orb" type things in Elder Scrolls lore. That's an educated guess, but I have never played the earliest ES games, so I may be wrong.

From a staff perspective -Most mage/wizard imagery shows a person with a staff, and they are able to weild eg elemental magic in their free hand. If any one has read Dresden files you will know what I mean.(Although Dresden does use other weapons too). As far as I'm aware a staff/blasting rod etc is used to channel magic for more precise work, and the free hand can be used for less controlled work.( not that this is reality..nor am I a magical expert) :p I also think that they would never allow slotting two different staves at same time or using say a staff and a dagger..so the elemental magic thing could work, without giving access to 2 weapon skill lines if that makes sense.

I understand that damage from two handed weapons should balance with one handed weapons, but you definitely have an advantage in achieving set bonus if you use one handed weapons. If they don't want to change 2 handed effects, perhaps they could add the ability to craft the following:

    Bow: Quiver
    2H Great sword: Scabbard
2h battle axe/ maul/mace: Couldn't find historical scabbards for these..so how about a shoulder Harness ( like those gangster one for guns)
    Staff: bound weapon/totem/ bracelet/gem

You could just slot them. They wouldn't even need to display them on your character ( Although it would be really cool if they did) :#

I miss my previous TES game experiences where I focused on conjuratuon/destruction and hit them with melee-range weapons( whether real or bound weapons)

Ideally I would love some bound weapons or weapons that look bound ( but have the same skill line as staves-does anyone even use frost/lightning? -purely cosmetic you see)..basically any kind of magicka melee/bow weapon ( as all there is currently is staves) .

As much as there is a slight variation between frost/lightning/flame- there is a lack of variety in the look of weapons if you are a magicka build..Sure, there are options but are they as cool as bows and dual weilding daggers? Stamina builds also have the choice between ranged and melee weapons. It would be nice if we had some different options.. Of course if hybrid builds were better off in this game you could mix and match...I just don't get the sense of freedom I did in previous games...or more accurately although ZOS said anyone can play the way they want ...If you are a magicka build , you get one choice of weapon - a staff..and they generally look the same.. So I feel that they have stuck to the classic mage/staff combo, despite you being able to do different in previous games. I think they missed an opportunity to create some awesome magical weapons ( especially bound ones)...I'm not saying get rid of staves, but give us more options please.

So yes to filling up that second slot. Then I could run in with my Dremora shouting "I smell weakness" and stab the enemies to death with my bound weapon : :p
