Whats the general stance on set combinations after the IC update? (Magicka)

waterfall

Gearing after this new update is giving me a headache, would those more knowledgeable care to help me with the following combination I came up with, as currently it leaves my restoration staff slot wasted:

Head - Monster Set (1/2)
Shoulders - Monster Set (2/2)
Chest - (1/5 Other Set E.g Phoenix/Overwhelming)
Gloves - (2/5 Other Set)
Waist - (3/5 Other Set)
Legs - (4/5 Other Set)
Shoes - (5/5 Other Set)
Neck - (1/3 New Jewellery set E.g Willpower)
Ring 1 - (2/3 New Jewellery set)
Ring 2 - (3/3 New Jewellery set)

Sword 1: (1/5 Crafted set E.g Magnus or Torugs)
Sword 2: (2/5 Crafted set)

Restoration staff: (??? pain/misery/upset)

Thanks

This covers some Setups. Not only applies to DK.

    imho there's
    5 2 3 x (5 set (see below), 2 dungeon, 3 new jewelry, weapons, can be a set for dw/1hs)
    5 1 3 1 (1 dungeon piece is often molag kena)
4 2 3 2 (4 martial knowledge which can be replaced by overwhealming surge (aka V16MK) once farmed)

If you somehow really need the 5-piece bonus of either footman or healer, 5/5/2 is still a thing.

    typical 5 sets:
spellpower cure, scathing mage, karegnac's hope, magnus, armor master, (phoenix...), crit-heal-gives-a-shield-set (forgot name), full grp stuff als merti service, black rose, imperium, etc, etc

other than that, i don't see too many appealing distributions. I think 4232 is actually strong but the other options have the charm that you can swap out those 5piece sets easily once you have the correct parts (painful to farm).

I think 5 1 3 1 looks best for me atm as I already have Kena epaulets and 3 or 4 Phoenix pieces. What would you say for the rest of it @Kas ? I run dual wield and a resto staff.

    Head - Phoenix 1/5
    Shoulders - Kena 1/2
    Chest - Phoenix 2/5
    Gloves - Phoenix 3/5
    Waist - Phoenix 4/5
    Breeches - Phoenix 5/5
    Shoes - Torugs Pact 1/5

    Neck - Willpower - 1/3
    Ring - Willpower - 2/3
    Ring - WIllpower 3/3

    Sword 1: Torugs Pact 2/5
    Sword 2: Torugs Pact 3/5

    Restoration staff: Torugs Pact 2/5

How does that sound for the time being? I might have trouble getting the willpower set, does anyone know if the healer set has 2 rings or just 1? I already have the neck so I could get healers rings for the time being if so until I can get willpower. I just don't like having wasted slots really :(.

    Thanks :)

if you're going for torugs, i personally prefer 2hand over dual wield. otherwise you lose HP everytime you weapon swap and the 2h passives are actually really useful. there is also this "arithmagic" thread and basically says that 2h is superior to dw in terms of damage if you already have high magicka.

imho dual wield is better suited for the 5/2/3. Any 1-piece (non-master because we want V16) weapon would be wasted as a set and thus torugs dw fits nicely.

that being said, phoenix will work well, but imho is just not as good as karegnac's, magnus, and of course the rare drop sets.

It would just be a temporary thing until I can get overwhelming or something like that, as phoenix is quite easy to get.

Haven't found a single piece of willpower in any of the XB1 guild traders I've checked... nice.

Are there any more worse (but easier to get) 3 piece jewellery sets out there?

In your list of acceptable 5-piece bonuses, you are missing powerful assault. Keep in mind that the 5pcs proc is stacking if initiated by different players, making this set the uncontested best option for groups with 3 or more stamina based DDs, provided they all use it and have vigor on their builds (or any other spammable assault ability).

For a solo oriented stamina DD, I still see hunding's rage as one of the best options out there.

    5 Willow 1 Kena 3/2 Torug 3 willpower
Seems such a good balance between sustain and power.

To be honest, look at this present set you are working on as more permanent. To pick up Overwhelming, which is indeed the ultimate "meta" right now, most seem to be estimating a 2-3mth grind at best to get it. And these are the ones with hours spare to do it...
