please help me understand champion points

I recently got to a vet rank and began receiving champion points. my character is vet 2, duel wield with two axes each doing 870 points of damage. I have bought every single ability, active and passive under duel wield and have placed 32 points into stamina. when I check the character sheet my weapon damage is ll83. heres where the question starts. I have 4 champion points I placed into the atronach "heavy weapon expert" which grants me "increase the damage of light and heavy attacks with maces and axes 2.6%" 2.6 of 1183 = 30.7 ..after adding these champion points my weapon damage is remaining the same 1183. so I began checking my other stats compared to allocated champion points and no where does it show the increase in shielding or damage. am I reading the stats wrong or has Bethesda forgot to to add this function to the xbox? and if not where do I actually find the stats for allocated champion points because so far the 12 points I have do not change any attributes on my character sheet at all. I can provide screenshots if needed, though it will cost me another 3000 gold you reallocate..boy this is going to suck if betesda did forgot to allow champion points to add on the xbox

I am a PC player so I don't know for sure.

But I think it is very possible that the 2.6% damage increase from your champion points is added on top of your base weapon damage. It most likely just doesn't show up on your weapon damage tooltip.

On PC this would be easily testable, just go hit the same monster a couple times and see how much damage you're doing before and after adding champ points. Xbox tho, not sure exactly how you'd test it...

Simple really, weapon power is, your weapon power, your base modifier along with stamina to determine the damage of your attacks, you chose to use points in a tree that buffs a certain type of attack, think of it if you put champion points into a tree that said "increase flurry damage by 2%" you won't see that on your character sheet as it's not a Base damage increase.

It only "activates" on light and heavy attacks.

The bonus is applied to the damage dealt. So if you did 1000 damage to a particular enemy before you had any champion points in Heavy Weapon Expert. It will increase to 1026 after you put 4 points into Heavy Weapon Expert. You will not find any changes on your character sheet. The only way to observe it is to hit something and record the damage done. I did this on PC, I know that there are not addons on Xbox so you'll just have to trust the PC testers that it is working as intended.

so you are saying if I activate say the duel flurry attack, one of the skills under duel wield these champion points do not apply?

The change doesn't show up on the tooltip, but it does get added when the damage is actually dealt.

This affects your actual damage dealt by light and heavy attacks. The "weapon damage" value on your character sheet is just a number that is involved in formulas to determine damage. Pretend it is called "strength" or "power" or "stamina-based attack coefficient X" and it might be more obvious what is going on. The name is a little misleading as it is not the damage you do with a weapon attack.
