Unable to interact with objects in the game world (sporadic problem)

I have been experiencing an unusual and sporadic issue since 2.1.4 released. I find that I am occasionally unable to interact with items in the game world - I cannot open chests, gather resources or loot corpses for example. I can still attack mobs but I can't change or holster my equipped weapon. It seems as though I have become disconnected from the game server, yet I'm still able to interact in some ways. Relogging solves the problem and I'm usually able to continue for another hour or two before it recurs. I'm connecting to the server from NZ, and I'm generally impressed with how responsive the game is but I'd be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing similar issues.

I occasionally have the same issue. It's like the E button stops working. Reloading the UI doesn't resolve; as you pointed out, only logging out and back in clears up the problem. Thankfully, the corpses are still there to loot when I log back in.

    Two things are occurring here.

    1. The game still thinks you are in combat, so you can't interact with a harvestable node while that is going on. This was going on before the last update. It usually clears up after a period of time.

    Or

    2. Your disconnected partially from the game, you still have the local instance, and you can fire your weapon sometimes.

Either of these can sometimes be sorted by hitting the Escape key on the PC a few times (or whatever brings up the menu to log off etc on the console. But not always and a relog is what is needed.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Thanks for the replies. I think I've noticed a pattern for when this partial disconnect occurs - it appears to be triggered if I share a kill with another player. I generally solo so this is just happening with casual assists. I'll test this theory when I'm online later - it might just be coincidence.

This issue has been around since the beginning. Notably objects you need to interact with or loot from don't trigger the <e> prompt, and hitting <e> anyway doesn't do anything. Yes, logging out and back in resets the interface... but when it happens chronically (as it is this afternoon for me) it becomes a serious annoyance that consumes time. It happened when the game opened, it happens now. Matter of fact I hadn't even thought about it up until the last patch but this afternoon it is happening an awful lot. Truly I wish this would be looked into. Having to log out continually because I must reload the UI is... incongruous. ~~edit~~ Matter of fact it seems to me there was a slash command we used ... was it [/reloadui ]? ...and everyone just used that and the issue wasn't addressed further, nearly as I can tell.

Yes, I see it happening a lot more since the 2.1.4 update. today it kept on for about an hour could play for about 10 -15 minutes and then "sort of disconnected" died 3 times since when it happens in combat I could not fight back.

btw, /reloadui does not always resolve the issue of being unable to target loot and interactable quest objectives/NPCs. Today it has not once resolved the issue. Further, the suggestion that it is a faulty internet connection or NIC problem should be put to rest as well, as I just installed a brand new 10/100/1000 NIC, new (April 2015) driver, used a brand new ethernet cord, and have flawless connectivity from this laptop while using the very same cable router I use for my gaming desktop, but still suffer the interface lapse in the game. Only relogging resolves the issue with certainty and THEN the resolution of the problem is only temporary.

NVidia drivers on my GTX680 (4 gig mem) are current. No other problems noticed. Running Windows 10 but the problem was present under Windows 7.

Update: /reloadui often fails to overcome this issue, but I have been having success re-acquiring client intractability by engaging another mob when plagued with this problem. It is as if my character did not recognize that they had left combat, even though combat clearly ended. Attacking something else provides another chance for the client to realize the fight was over.

When this happens to me, and it happens several times a day... I go into my inventory, switch my weapons and come back out, usually works. Usually, not always lol! Yeah, an annoying thing that started happening more frequently after the last big patch.

Yes, I have had the problem intermittently for the last month or so. It is often followed by being kicked from the server. So many bugs.

I just had ANOTHER similar issue aside from all the others, that is. Any time I tried to access(E) anything it says I'm out of range. I had to log out completely and have yet to go back in to see if it has resolved itself. I swear to god if it's not one thing , it's another with this game, it's just bug after bug after problem after problem, it's so aggravating because I go above and beyond to ensure my computer is performing properly only to be met with another issue in game. At some point you guys need to take responsibility for this. Stop updating! Stop creating new problems before you have fixed the current ones!

And I wonder, why pay for new DLC when fundamental problems like this and super low fps's and crashes are ignored? Is the implementation so bad that it challenges ZoS to fix them?

My 'fix' for this issue is to hold down the left mouse as if preparing a heavy attack. I'm then able to interact, loot etc. It's a lot faster than relogging and seems to work 100% of the time - which is just as well as this 'disconnect' seems to be happening a lot more frequently.
