Nord Templar "paladin"

Hello,
I'm quite new to this game (although I played the Beta), and after testing some "standard" characters, I decided to try and build a Nord "Paladin" Templar focused on Magicka with Sword and Shield. At the moment I'm level 6, and I keep dying. Too weak as damage output, too weak as damage absorption.
So, since my point is not to have the best dd solo build, but a viable solo build with the above mentioned characteristics (nord race, sword and shield, magicka, possibly heavy armour), do you have any advice to make this char at least able to survive - if any?
Thank you for any suggestion!

Well you're leveling. While leveling you need to make a build for just that, leveling. Don't try to make an end game build when you're not at end game.

Just slot puncturing sweeps and spam that. It will get you through 100% of the levelling content. On your other 4 slots just put in abilities that you need to level up. When something reaches level 5 then slot something else. Wear all three types of armour to level them all to 50. Use every weapon type and level it to 50. When you hand in a quest, fill your bar with skills that need levelling.

Don't spend skill points on passives, just the skills as you level everything you possibly can.

Then when you're max level you can respec and choose whatever builds you like as everything will be levelled up. You might want to reset your morphs in the capital city after a while to level both morphs of each skill up.

I dont entirely agree on those as passives are what make or break a build. At lower levels of levelling this may be true but once you have past that lvl 30, passoves will be required. While the rest of the tips are well and good, I suggest having at least one pt in each passives of each tree. That way, you still have enough to unlock the rest of the abilities and their morphs and still receive the passives that each tree gives you.

Grab every single skyshard you can. And if there are anyone who wants to run a dungeon, run it and finish the quest. This wil earn you skill points as well.

I always see pre vet content to be where you learn your basics, learning the ropes, handling multiple amd single mobs. Its also where your gear does not matter much, you can literally level for ten levels using the same gear before changing it. You dont even need to have sets as these are more valuable to you in vet content than in pre vet areas.

Thank you very much for your advice. I will try and make the character using them as best as I can.

I'm not saying don't get every single passive. Obviously when you build your character you want every last one that might improve the skills you are using. The point was, don't pour all your skill points into passives whilst you are levelling and end up without enough points to get skills to level up. Especially as some bonus of X% to blah blah isn't going to matter one jot when you can puncturing sweeps your way through anything pre-Craglorn solo whilst being half asleep.
