character naming to help others

I have read a few posts about what to name characters or how do people come up with names for them. I have a very simple method for doing this....

I look at the first thing I see maybe combined it with the second thing. like I look and see a desk and a pen and you have the new name of pendeski "the dragon slayer" boom name created...

example 2:

you see a clock and a camera....combining ...... clamera "the female beauty" it works and you can get some unique names

I of course added some flair with the "blah blah blah" however it shows that the names can be completely random yet work for what you want to achieve.

any other tips for those in need for naming help?

I use 3 letters because we all know anyone typing or speaking it will shorten it anyway

The thought was more that he uses Fear on people from other countries (pvp)

I found the best way to name characters is to have an imagination and use it. It's helped me a lot over the years. I can see how the problem exists for those that don't have one though.

well you gotta kind of think about it to get the things mentioned above especially the pedometer and file one but I managed haha

I prefer the console way of doing things, which you can simulate by dropping a few things on your keyboard and pressing Enter.

Seriously, go to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Names for a good surname then use http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?q=namegenerator and go through a few pages looking for inspiration on a first name. This also reduces the number of previously used names that you will encounter.

If you're a console player, just save your self some time and mash a few buttons.

Nobody really sees the character name (aside from crafted items and leaderboards)....so what me worry if your character is a Nord called ";jkl1gnfadjksadf;kljsaf;adlm".

I really like one of my characters named "Indiana Jones Theme Song"... When I am playing her I always kill every snake critter in my way.

Get some Lore Correct Names, you may not use the exact ones you get from the list, but you can get some inspiration

I have my basic character names... all anagrams of one of the first fantasy characters I ever played in pen&paper RPGs... I really enjoy rearranging the letters to make more different sounding names... though sadly, I spent less thought then I ought to have on some of my alts, which after a year playing, I now regret, and wish they would hurry up with a rename function so I could do better...

I use a similar method of a name generator but the one I have used all this time includes an array of surnames based on the race. EG: Nords tend to have names like "XYZ the Verb" or "X Y-Z". Then you can generate until you find a first or last name you like and mix and match.

Some ppl use the char in game name for rp and creating backstories on them thats why i posted this to help everyone not just the ppl who want rp but ppl who want immersion as well

hahaha, I remember back in my MUDing days I did the same thing as the OP. Usually I'm pretty creative and come up with fantasy names with relative ease but I was stumped when trying to create a mage on ArcticMUD. So I looked around the computer room and saw a box of Clasp Envelopes, and thus Claspen was born. That was about 22 years ago now, but I still use the name fairly often.

The worst thing is when someone uses a 14 character name of nonstandard name speeling, or random characters.

I've seen a lot of names in games for for characters that specifically weren't bots that I knew I'd never type a second time to a friend, especially in battle.

Yeah, just copying some established character name... is for loosers, I'd think. Taking -Inspiration- is all good and well, but at least file off the serial numbers and give it a new coat of paint, willya?

Roll an Argonian with a Cyrodillic name. Bam, that becomes easy. You can even go meta:

My naming scheme consists of variations and combinations of: 2 gamertags I have been using since "forever", the name of a character in an old game that I have forgot and a name I got a few of years ago from a textbook cover on my desk.

Of course the best and easiest way to make a name for a character is to make yet another variation on Drizzt Do'Urden. You can't quite beat that...

Well... maybe you can just directly lift a name from ASOIAF
