Mail Problem

Hi
I have a friend who I cannot send mail to. I am on the XB1 NA server and am unable to send mail to a specific friend whether I type in his XB1 gamertag or press Y on his name in friends and click send mail. When I try to send the mail it will say unable to find player with that name.
P.S. have tried to use his in game character name also.
