Imperial City Fishing - Wen Loach Is Elusive

I've caught all the fish in the Imperial City twice over except for the Wen Loach after using 500 Roe. Has anyone else managed to catch it?

I've not started yet. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who's excited about fishing in a PvP zone again.

It's definitely some more intense fishing. I have only caught 6 of the rare fish there so far.

I love when people attack me while I'm fishing and then dies.

I was under the impression bait has nothing to do with rarity. Is this not the case? If so, oops. I guess I should have kept that extra bait in lieu of inventory space.

@Violynne do you mean using found bait vs caught bait? Or just using the right bait at all? I'm not sure if it's completely impossible to catch a rare fish with the wrong type of bait, but you sure have a better chance using the right bait.. since you won't catch used bait (aka - foul water use crawlers or fish roe). Back when you used to only be able to catch Stos M'kai's rare fish with chub, but that was bug and since has been fixed.

I have caught green fish with wrong bait in 1.6(but only once), first caught green and next catch I got used bait. Also fished at a pool only giving me used bait, no matter the bait I used

I ditched it because I didn't think it was important. I keep the 4 types of found bait (worms, crawlers, guts, insect parts).

Yeah, caught bait gives you a better chance of finding rare fish. These are the types of bait you should use:

Ocean: Worms/Chub
Lake: Guts/Minnow
River: Insect Parts/Shad
Foul: Crawlers/Fish Roe

I may just wait and see if I can convince some guildies to fish with me in the Imperial City instead of attacking everyone in sight. Group fishing also increases the chances of rare fish.

Through my fishing I have never experienced a noticeably higher rare fish rate with using caught bait, although RNG is also in there somewhere so really, my experience could be not the norm. Another poster mentioned that it improves your chances, so maybe it does. I can't say for sure. I have noticed a significantly better rare fish catch rate when fishing with others in the same hole though. Although, once again, there could be others that don't experience that.

Oh, and yeah... some fishing holes are bugged. Usually the ones I find are where two water types meet, but either bait for the 2 water types won't work properly. Although properly working fishing holes are much more common.

Group fishing is also better in IC as the holes seem to last a lot longer.

theres a book somewhere in grahtwood explaining what to fish with and where to use it. im not 100% sure on this but i do believe it also says that the caught bait gives better chances at catching these rare fish. its been a while since i read so i could be wrong. but this book is how i learned what types of bait to use when fishing in certain areas. for me it does seem like i catch more rare fish, but sometimes not the fish i want lol.

If you have a character that has finished the mage quest line you can just look in your eidetic memory.. Or ask someone who does to look. (I'm at work so can't look at it right now) @IamNoobee

Do spots not run out in IC? I found a nice spot in a corner, where I was able to remain stealthed while fushing most of the time, going detected only when grabbing the fish. I went through over 20 crawlers stopping shortly after I finally caught a blue fish.

I think there's 25 fish per hole. There's roughly 3-4 holes per district, so it makes sense that less holes = more fish. They do run out after a while.

I'm not sure, honestly, aside from the fact that caught bait is 3x more expensive than other bait in guild stores. I just know that it seems to help when I'm fishing solo. But that could be my imagination.

Are there different water types in IC? OP mentioned only roe and my first foray, I found only foul water.

I laughed when I sold a stack of roe for 4k. I knew it was priced like this because people think it works better. From what I've seen the only thing that matters is persistence when the RNG gods laugh at you, and grouping. I'm happy to sell all caught bait for high prices. I feel confident it will not affect my chance to get the new IC fish to go along with my Master Angler title. With the addition of Perfect Roe, I really don't care what I catch as long as it is not used bait.

Not in IC, no. IC only has foul water, according to Rare Fish Tracker.

Finally! Got the blasted fish with crawlers and a group of four people.

As for special bait, I think it mainly increases the chance of getting a blue fish instead of a green fish if you happen to catch a rare fish. But that's it. So if all you have left are green fish, save the special bait for later.
