Noob question here about Magicka NB

I'm relatively new to this game and I'm interested on playing something like a mage who can do ranged dps and support through heal, CC and/or debuff.

My question is, a magicka NB can be ranged-dps/support and be effective in pvp? I have this problem because when I read NB's skills I can see how almost all of them are melee and I will have to be too reliant on destro-staff.

Another question is, for this gamestyle (ranged dps + support/CC) is more enjoyable to play sorc than NB?

Both are good. Sorc is obviously going to stand out more in the ranged dps area but the lovely thing about this game is anything can be anythung. My magicka NB has both dps, healed and tanked DSA several times now. Same for all the vet dungeons. Try playing all the classes to atleast lvl 10 to get an early glimpse as to what they will be like.

Magicka NBs are capable of absolutely devastating things in pvp; few people seem to have noticed.

Edit: particularly in regard to CC, although people have definitely noticed that part of the equation.

In my admittedly limited Pvp experience, Magicka NB is the most common source of my demise.
So yeah, I've noticed...

I'd have to agree with the above two posts. Unfortunately people were whining about magicka nightblade before the patch even hit.

Those magicka nightblade are also ranged? Because I think I'm more interested in siphoning and some shadow skills.

Yes, magicka nb has a good set of ranged skills. Funnel Health, Crippling Grasp and Merciless Resolve are all 28m ranged skills and form the basis of single target damage skills. Also Piercing Mark and dual shades has it. Shadow image, fear and cloak allows you to stay at range. Impale and Refreshing Path have mid range reach. Sap Essence has bigger area than Impulse allowing some kiting.

Healing skills from resto staff have long range too, but you have to compensate for limited area. Templar Breath of Life heals a very large area. Healing Spring has range but limited area. You usually have to cast e.g. Healing Ward and HP together. Funnel Health has about ten meter healing area around you.
