What is "basic attack"?

Shiponing attacks tooltip says each basic attack restore stamina and magicka. But on other tooltips for example monsters set, the description says when dmg with light and heavy attacks, so it confused me a bit. Is "basic attacks" and "light and heavy" attacks the same thing?

Yes.
The two versions of syphon.
Option 1 = Heal + stam/magi... but only with light and heavy attacks (toggle)
Option 2= No heal + stam/magi.... guaranteed basic attacks + % chance with other attacks (non-toggle).
So you sacrifice heals to get better resource return.

Many used caltrops with ravager to get automatic and very high resource return.
Coupled with hunter stacking.
So you could have very High DPS build with massive regen too.
Tornado still gives good returns with massive range to hit muitple targets.
ZOS has clamped down on that.

I would like to try whirlwind again now with the 20% stamina regen + the heal toggle.
Might be better than the stamina on hit option (easier to manage at least).

Basic or normal attacks are light and heavy attacks with your weapons .
