What's wrong with ESO PVP

People on this forum love to bash Call of Duty and the CoD crowd. The irony is that is exactly what ESO PVP is: Call of Duty: TES Edition.

1. People run around killing each other and, if they die, instantly respawn, run back, fight, die, respawn again, and repeat.
2. There is very little incentive to survive because you aren't risking anything-- you just respawn.
3. Campers are rewarded with kills, even if their skill level is low.
4. It is mindless repetition that can be incredibly fun, but also gets old.
5. You can dump hours upon hours into the game and not pregress your character or amass any worthwhile loot or gold.

People view ESO PVP as somehow superior to CoD, but overall they are eerily similar.

Thankfully I think IC is an attempt to remedy this to some extent. It sounds like IC will provide a much more dynamic environment (PVE successfuly integrated into the PVP experience) and provide some actual reward/incentive for staying alive and/or killing other players (TV stones). So thanks, ZOS, for IC. It sounds like it won't be the mindless monotomy that is Cyrodil Major.

I don't agree. Character progress in PvP is given by advancement in alliance ranks, the only source of skill points left for me, and rise in alliance skill line ranks (at least for three of my four pvp chars, those that have not yet reached AR24). Also, I do earn at least one champion point a day, which suits me fine. Also, I earn at least 10k net a night doing pvp, more if I use AP instead of gold for the siege consumables. While that is not much, it is enough to satiffy my needs, since I also spend the time farming the crafting materials I need by myself.

In my humble opinion, gameplay is actually more varied than PvE is, because you can't really predict opponent behaviour. There is no doubt about a certain similarity to games like CoD, since Cyrodiil proper is mainly direct combat between human players with little or no NPC influence. I do think of this as very different in the details, though. Also, with having IC the way it is, a very different game environment is available for the PvP players, again adding variety.

Now, I haven't ever played any CoD, but if it is comparable to other FPS games, the "character progression" is much more limited in those, not only in regards to the character himself but also in regards of play styles. It is a question of taste, for sure, but I do like the fact that by knowledge and effort, you can get a number advantage over pure reaction time abilities.

There is nothing wrong with PvP per se. There are bugs, there are some, let's call them "controversial" game development decisions, but I don't think these seriously afflict the principles of gameplay.

Sounds just like my other mmo.

You run around trying to capture keeps, towers, camps & a castle on one of the maps, or try & defend them. You engage in battle. Usually zerg vs zerg. Die sometimes. If your side win the battle, another player might revive you, saving the need to respawn at the nearest uncontested or main spawn point. Repeat the whole process over & over again. Minus the severe lag, usually.
While the enemy cannot camp directly in your main spawn area. They can be known to camp outside the gates, set up siege & prevent players from getting on the map. Only happens when weekly rounds are lopsided in favor of one side.
Getting ganked is not uncommon, normally by thief's (think nightblade in this game), as they have almost perma stealth & can be next to impossible to kill.
There are no mounts. No skills that provide insane speed boosts. No bolt escape or anything like it.

Here it comes. The envoy/prologue to ESO's PVP making the transition to a community similar to CoD/Destiny. Just wait... You'll be hearing people say instead of, "Get no-scoped!" "Get C-Fragged!" Or something along the lines of, "Everyone on the flag objective, and put heals down on ______. There's a few campers outside of the keep, waiting for us."

    Camping takes skill! Haha.

Bad campers: Sit in one place. Get 1 or 2 kills. Die because they don't move.
Good campers: Move in a triangular (or similar) pattern and camp their previous camp spot. Get many more kills.
Great campers: Do everything above that good campers do but almost never die.

Weirdly, I'm convinced that the "anti-ganking" folks are probably the same people who think a 22/21 K/D ratio in COD is better than 13/2. These games have much more in common than people say. Yes, ESO has much much much more depth, but being a good COD camper is excellent practice for being good in Cyrodiil. Being that 22/21 guy really only leads to lots of horse riding.
