My opinion of the first DLC

I love this game. I will continue to play this game; however, if future DLCs are like this one I will not be buying them.

I thought this DLC would have something for both audiences pvp, and pve. I have been greatly disappointed that this is mainly a pvp content DLC. The pve access is all mired up in the pvp.

Let us remember that pvp focused mmorpg title tend to have a short life. Warhammer, and Shadowbane both came, and went. Having pvp as a game mechanic is fine, but focusing your title around it will not attract the larger market. The bigger group to market to is the pve crowd. When WoW first launched it had NO pvp. It was patched in post. And still it's sales were amazing.

If you haven't bought this first DLC, and you're a primarily pve player, then you'll want to skip this one.

I keep hope that they will release the next DLC with more true pve content.

If you require people to be forced to play with you that doesn't say as much about the game as it does you as a player.

Really? I played since Vanilla and before it got so super popular really and I don't remember that. Must have been a pretty low-key patch because I can't remember a time when there was none.

Did you miss the fact that they announced that IC was primarily for PVP? And that the next DLC update will be PVE focused?

It's like people actively try to ignore what is going on around them.

True :) To OP: If you have missed too Cyrodiil is the pvp zone.

I'd like to point out that wow had tons of pvp at launch, the best pvp in fact. Most games actually follow a trend of content being watered down over time and pandering to the vocal minority because people are inconvenienced by challenges.

I'd like to thank pve'ers for making IC ungated access requirements, thereby allowing all factions to zerg train and ruin it for everyone instead of:

-Zerg trains staying in cyrodil where they belong
-pvpers like me can enjoy the pvp in cyrodil where it belongs
-all players could enjoy the fruits of home keep access labour, creating a much safer pve environment in IC for one faction at a time, the way it was supposed to be.

To Zenimax: quit listening to forum whiners and stay true to your vision for this game. The people who complain the most won't be playing in a few months regardless of whether you cater to their demands or not.

This has always been advertised as PVP orientated DLC. Imperial City is smack bang in the middle of the PVP zone. What did you expect?

Orsinuim is coming by Christmas. Non PVP zone. There has been plenty of solo zones since launch and there are more being worked on. Solo game gets and has had plenty of love. Let PVP have this, and more solo zones will be coming.

PS there was always PVP in WoW. Always. Please do not make things up to try and get a point across.

From what I've noticed is that all the previous major content updates (when ESO had a subscription) were all orientated around PvE, such as Veteran Crypt of Hearts and the Veteran City of Ash dungeons, as well as the Adventure Zone 'Craglorn' which had both the Lower and Upper parts given in separate updates.

So it was only about time for the players that prefer PvP to have their content, which came over a year after launch, whilst those that prefer PvE had new content regularly every 1-2 months. Even the Justice System has been released with only the PvE segment in place, I presume that the PvP segment will be the next thing that PvP players look forward to.

Even if it is DLC, the PvP players deserved this update to favour them. The disgruntled PvE players don't have too long to wait for Orsinium either which is expected to be released around October-December time. Anyway, there is still things that PvE players can do to appreciate this update, such as the two new Imperial City dungeons (which come with item sets), and the updates to crafting with the new Glass and Xivkyn styles, as well as the updates to combat.

I must disagree with the OP arguments. Though I see reason behind his cause (I do like PVP and PVE mixed together, but I understand people who doesn't) I feel compelled to say that no, WoW always had PVP and more than that: the most successful feature in the game are battlegrounds and arenas (they're like 3x more active than dungeons and raids) and "Horde x Alliance" is the thing there, anyone who ever played WoW knows that :P Not to mention the thrill of questing and levelling on contested territories.

Most successful MMOs had both good PVP and PVE. Ultima Online still exists (though not half as good as it once was) when? When it was PVP focused.

LOTRO almost failed on its early days (after Moria, before going free to play) because PVP was abandoned and there was no open world PVP.

    PVP is important.
    PVE is important too.

I don't see why people have to argue about one or another... they have hundreds of people working in the game, thousands of dollars coming in, I'm sure we can pressure them to create good content for both instead of trying to pick sides on something which is ultimately personal preference.

I'm sure that when Wrothgar comes out, everyone will be like "What? No new pvp stuff?" lol.

No, there wasn't PvP as most people consider PvP to be at launch. There was PvP servers where you could be attacked in any opposing groups home zones by that group and could attack each other in neutral zones, player duels that didn't award anything or "kill" either participant, and opposing guards would attack players killing them if they were in the wrong zone. None of this was tracked or rewarded a player for kills, it was just for the challenge more than anything. But there was no consensual PvP on PvE servers or any sort of battlegrounds. Which is where the confusion comes from I think. I don't think any current game has PvP servers or even the notion of non consensual PvP.

They first added consensual PvP about two or three months after launch due to all the complaining that it was a promised feature. It pretty much worked like pick up baseball. A group would choose to "invade" an area, usually Xrds for alliance and the mill for horde. There was no winning option/goal other than being king of the hill, so to speak. It often ended up in a who will blink first stare down once the sides equalized. Later they added the first versions of battlegrounds and player focus moved away from the pickup invading to the more organized and focused PvP they now have.

I don't mind the idea of a PvP DLC but hope that they will also have PvE DLC. If not I'll most likely let my plus membership lapse. I have found one major problem with how it's setup though. When I attempted to enter the sewer I was ganked by 4-5 players. The way it's setup with having to go through a contested PvP zone to enter the new zone for the first time, pretty much encourages players to lie in wait and gank for cheap kills.

Orsinium is coming for Christmas. An entirely PVE zone. Lots of solo play for you to wander off and merrily do. Turn that frown upside down!

Most likely the IC will be the only DLC pvp centric addition to the game, I think the IC should have always been part of the base game myself but that is just me. PVE'ers can enter the two dungeons with out any pvp you can travel to them, if you purchased the DLC.

Looking ahead at what they announced, the next three DLC's are all pve, I noticed they don't talk about the pvp element of the justice system any longer figure that is either gone bye bye or on a back burner way in the back.

Not to mention, housing which they said they have started to work on, the barber shop and other things beyond the regular content updates, the Dev's still have big plans it seems and they seem enthusiastic about bringing it to us but it takes time and they are slow, about getting things done.

The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I think ZOS are trying to keep everyone happy, but there's only so much they can do when PvErs want more PvE content, and PvPers want the PvErs to shut up.

Did you say there was a way to get into IC without having to got through Cyrodiil? If so please tell me how, after the third time they ganked me I gave up on trying to enter the sewer pipe that lead to the IC play area. :(

It's like people actively try to ignore what is going on around them.

So here's the problem with this Billy... When it was originally announced, they pitched that it was everything to everybody. Based on the smell of the details, they later recanted and said that it was PvP focused. Skeptics knew the marketing department was full of it. The faithful were, however, faithful. As a result, damage was and still is being caused. So I think if Orsinium isn't what the larger community wants then you won't have to worry about full server queues.

So the thing you need to remember is that you have a marketing department that was only caring about making a short sell and attempting to push the DLC regardless of the long term harm of image for the overall product.

By them doing that, they have created this rift that you so artfully play in.

If they had said, Imperial City, PvP only, if you don't care about PvP then wait 3 months. PvE only would say, ok, got it, not for me. Waiting a few months.

Instead they have set up so many pork chops around this DLC's neck, it is ridiculous to attempt to force/tempt people to buy it. As a result, they have botched the PvP aspect of the update as well.

To those PVE players who don't want to PvP but are considering not getting this its worth remembering that....

The two new PvE dungeons have all the new V16 sets. The stuff I've had drop so far has been BoP so not been tradeable.

You can not get the DLC and not run these dungeons... and not be able to do gold/silver on the days when it pops up in the rotation... and not have the new superduper gear.....

As long as long as you're ok with that then it can be skipped..... but there's a lot of good stuff in the PvE dungeons that makes it valuable for a PvE player too.
