tanking armor

Luckeeduck
Im not sure if this is the proper place to ask this, if not I apologize.

I am currently working on a nightblade magicka tank using a 5-1-1 heavy armor mix. My confusion comes from several friends of mine saying that I should start preparing to wear mostly light armor for tanking. I have looked over some of the upcoming changes and saw that light armor is indeed getting an armor increase but it still seems like it would be on the weak side for tanking.

Am I correct in using mostly heavy or should I indeed prepare to switch to light?

    Mitigation
    1. blocking - no regen on block
    2. Streak - increasing cost
    3. Roll - increasing cost
    4. Armour - always been ineffective compared to block/shields.
    5. Heal - Heal ??! - Heal ??!??/1......

    Heals need magicka buffs.
    Optimum magicka = Optimal DPS.
    Optimal DPS = Lowest TTK

I don't see any option than a full blown magicka DPS to heal through damage when needed.
Cloak just adds to the survivability.
    Passives...

Ever since beta I have been a 5 heavy stamina NB tank.
Theres simply no point anymore IMHO so I just started levelling a sorc.
In the starting campaign...guess what every other new player was ?
    Those pets were everywhere ;)

I'd rathe stay as my stam NB tank..but fed up banging my head against a wall.

Im a sorc tank with heavy armor and feel the exact same way.

Its like without my shield damage just cuts into me, might as well just make it easier for me to use my shields.

I do try and keep in mind... in PVP... the changes of half health regen, half damage, is going to make armor more effective conversely. However that is something we will have to wait for.

Sorcs do seem to be most common, making me want to make a new non sorc character... ohs welI

I will just have to give it an experimental try once the IC drops. Who knows, maybe LA tanking is the new way to go.

Tanks use shields If you plan on tanking then you need a sword and shield. Why because of the passives! no other weapon has as much block focused passives and 1h + shield. Magic nightblades can tank through smart use of skills (the syphoning tree is your friend) but it is reliant on being surrounded by mobs. Sorcs require heavy armor and shields, there really isn't anything in the class trees that that will lend itself to tanking, it can be done just that you need to be geared properly. Templar make great tanks because they can self heal through large amounts of damage, dragon knights make great tanks because they have damage mitigation skill, CC skills that reduce damage, and a great self heal as well. Learning your class fully requires time and patience, the willingness to be wrong and the creativity to adjust. Please don't fall victim to being a victim and saying that its not possible because its being done. Not every player with a good build puts their stuff on youtube. Ask questions, test skills, and modify your play. That is all.
