Archery isn't for everyone.

Bow is by no means weak. Stealth, crit mundus, Stam build NB bosmer or khajit and you wreck people. Open up with piercing mark/focused aim, hit them with a venom arrow dot, switch bars, ambush, surprise attack, executioner. Dead. Rinse and repeat

My main build is a stamina nightblade, bosmer, DW/Bow. Works brilliantly for me and I can easily hold my own in PVP and PVE

I figured the answer was Lyris's axe. Mr. Burns hits harder than her with that thing. Maybe someone put a healing enchant on her weapon and she doesn't know about it.

Yet somehow there was a player in chat the other day crowing about how glad he was to be rid of her because she kept stealing his kills.

If you think it's the bow oh boy you've got it wrong. I'm a V14 on consoles (XB1) and I personally got 4 hit by a bow user (while on horse back).

I've played with a bow on my vr14 Imperial Templar since April 2014. Personally, I love the bow, but...

The bow is not so much weak as it is situational. In PvE and PvP most enemies will close to melee range or use AoE or gang (group/zerg) tactics. Although bow isn't useless in those situations, it is weak in close quarters combat compared to other weapons.

As for the restoration staff, I've beaten Molag Bal three times using only resto heavy attacks, healing, class skills and a speed buff.

My least favorite weapon is sword and board, but maybe that's due to my natural play style. My favorite weapon is still the bow despite its situational limitations, followed by DW and the fire staff.

Grab your bow. Now, find a target. Got one? Fantastic.

Before you rush off screaming at the top of your lungs, alerting your enemy to your presence, take a breather and put yourself into sneak mode.

Now fire an arrow.

Holy crap! Did that sneak crit just take a ton of health off that enemy??!!

Yep. The bow is the only weapon to do such damage in sneak mode, without any single passive or skill boost.

Now imagine the weapon with those buffs.

As a NB, I used bow to sneak shot enemies, most losing 75% of their health on a single hit (and some, mages, were one-shot kills), a necessity when there are mobs. Taking down one ASAP made the fight a little easier.

If you really want to see the weakest weapons in the game, I suggest you take a look at the one-handed weapons: daggers, swords, axes, and maces.

Made for quick DPS, so long as you don't mind taking 12 hours to kill a single enemy.

This is what made playing NB a chore and challenging.

Telel

Telel's primary weapon is the bow. But their primary skill is not snipe nor even poison injection.

It is instead Bombard and light attacks. Much fun can be had when one's opponents find themselves stuck to the floor through the pointy things now sticking through their feet.

As a humble khajiit it is not Telel's place to suggest that spamming snipe is in fact the reason most wanna be Legolases (Legolasii?) think bows are bad. However those less humble have likely already done so and this makes Khajiit immensely amused.

AS for what this one beleives to be the weakest weapon. They would have to say either bare hands or frost staves as the healing sticks have much to offer. Not the least of which is their immunity to flappity flaps.

Compared to how strong it SHOULD be, the Destruction Staff is the weakest weapon in ESO, by far.

This is a simple L2P thread, but not in the "OP is complaining about getting sniped/owned" way.

If you stand there like a lemon spamming snipe then you'll accomplish very little in PvP.

If you position yourself beind the front line or to the sides in sneak, then shoot ONE snipe mixed with venom arrow and a light attack IMMEDIATELY after, you can do a LOT of damage.

Remember NOT to shoot at DKs who have reflect up. Wait for them to drop it before trying again. Shields will absorb the damage, but for every shot you take which drains stamina, those shields drain their magicka and it's a simple case of sustain.

DON'T just spam snipe and expect to win. Even against semi-competent players you'll be killed easily since you won't know what else to do. I don't know/can't remember/didn't read what class you are, but try using some of your class abilities to survive or add in extra damage. This also applies to PvE since you apply more damage and more DoTs to kill the NPCs quicker.

Although I agree that destro staffs should be stronger, they aren't the weakest weapon in the game. @Violynne got it absolutely right. One-handed weapons are the weakest in the game. Without Steel Tornado, DW wouldn't be all that good, and S&B is only useful for a tank -- this in a game where tanks are not useful at all in PvP and have limited use in PvE dungeons.
