I'm brand new to this ESO... I play on Xbox one... And I'm curious about which character is best for DPS ... And I don't really know all the lingo yet... But if someone could take the time out to help me out I would be extremely grateful... I don't know anything about the game... I've done a few quests and I'm at level 9 but still really don't know what all I should be working on ... Please help.. Sorry if this is a repeat post... I'm on my phone and its hard to scroll through everything
.. Thanks again... Fastmoney

well it depends on what you like do you like mages mele a mix or range like with a bow. I know for damage the bow is good once you unlock snipe, the last bow skill, it opens up for a lot of possibilities. nightblades are great for hitting hard in small bursts of damage versus long time damage sustainment. they can be harder to play because they tend to be like a glass cannon they hit like a truck but break easy. the sorcerer hits just as hard depending on how you use them they are also easy to kill if you do not use the shields to gain an advantage, this is from what I have read not experienced myself. now me I like the Templar for its amazing healing ability the dps is much less than that of a nighblade or sorcerer so I would stay away unless you would want to second as a healer. Templars are more for sustained damage consistent versus bursts of high damage and ofcorse heals, most Templars are healers but not all. dragon knights ,from what ive read, make best tanks have not yet played one as well but they are on the lower end with Templar in the damage department. as for weapon choices as said bow is good for stamina based chars dual wield and 2 handed weapon skill trees. for magic destruction staff or dual wield because it provides more magic damage, I don't remember why but it is not something I use. at level 15 you get a secondary weapon slot with a new bar to experiment other weps. it is best to pick what you would like to achieve then go on to picking a class based on that. sure any class can do anything. a sorcerer can be stamina based tank if they wanted. though it may not turn out to be very good in late game but they can do it, it will just be harder.

most of the game is playing how you liking and finding the right combination of skills and weapon that suits you. there is no right or wrong answer to this. if you find that you are a stamina sorcerer that is a tank and you use the shields and pet summons to stay alive and it is working for you then by all means keep going despite what others may say. if it works for you and you know the class and skills you use that keeps you from dying then nothing can stop you

@fastmoney I think any class can DPS successfully, this is because a lot of the damage comes from the weapon skills you use and the armor passives you use, a lot of buffs also come from generic skill trees that everyone can get access to.

Your race can slightly augment this and your class defines what style and form your abilities take. Some classes are better at at AOE, others better at single target damage, some better close quarters, others better at range.

so be any class that appeals to you is my advice. Also if you know what you want to be. (eg i want to be a duel wielding death dealing rogue) then let us know and there will be knowledgeable members of the community that can give their opinions on the best classes and racees to maximise this

And I wanted to ask... Do I keep putting points in magika ? Because in all the other games if you want a damage dealing sorc... You put all points into intelligence...

if you are playing Sorc, yes you put points into magic.

AOE is Area of Effect, it is a skill that hits enemies in a general area (look up impulse in the destruction staff skill line).

Sorcs make great damage dealers when properly geared, and use their skills wisely. You should be focused on spell damage, magicka regen, magicka cost reduction, and lastly spell critical.

Points into magicka increase your overall damage and your resource pool. regen effects how much magic you get back per second, cost reduction is how much your skills cost, and spell critical is how often your spells crit.

Generally you will focus on light armor as that has the best synergies with magicka, although it is best to weave in heavy and medium armors while leveling to get the passives unlocked. Choose from the other two armor categories wisely. Light armor offers the lowest defense from melee attacks so its a good idea to stay at range. To mitigate this you might what to go with 5 light pieces and 1 medium piece and 1 heavy piece. This set up is perfect for an undaunted passive you will unlock later, and gives you the best way to level each armor class at the same time. if you run into issue you may want to go with 5 light 2 heavy to increase your melee resistence.

As you get further into the game armor with contain enchantments, you get the biggest enchantment buff from head, chest and leg pieces. You want to try to make sure the enchantment on these pieces are for magicka.

To start out you should go destruction staff, at level 15 you get access to your second bar and should probably put a restoration staff there. Level these until max then for max damage you should look to dual wield two swords as the effect from two weapons will increase your spell damage (please don't ask why). While dual wielding you lose the effect of being able to light and heavy attack (you will just swing your sword....not very effective at range) but your range spells will hit like a truck. This is really only recommended once you have a firm grasp of your character and resource management as many weave in a few light and heavy attack while damage dealing range spells to allow for magic regen.

You will find mundus stones around the world that can give you a permanent buff (as long as you have that stone selected) the ones that will interest you the most are THE MAGE = max magicka, and THE ATRONACH = more magicka regen. You can only pick one so pick the one that you feel you need the most, (there is an exception to this. A crafted endgame gear set will allow you to pick two mundus stones).

You can also buff your max magic/ regen via food and drinks. Food boost max magic, drinks boost magic regen, you can only have one of these buffs at one time (meaning if you eat food, then drink a brew, you will overwrite the max magic buff for the regen buff). Crafting (provisioning) will give you the best avenue to best food and drink buffs.

That should be everything you need to know to get you started.

You can always respec, so never worry about wasting skill points. Since you're lower levelled, take some time to try out a little bit of everything.
