Set Advise (Spell Damage vs. Max Magicka + Crit)

Hi guys,

I am a DD Sorcerer and currently I am running a Set with 4 pieces Magnus Gift and 2 pieces Torugs Pact. Now I can use 3 more slots.

Option 1:
Song of Lamae - This set will give me Health recovery (useless for me) and approx. 180 Spell Damage

Option 2:
Willows Path - That will give me +4% crit and approx. 900 Max Magicka

What do you think is the better Option? Go for the extra Damage on every single Spell or increase max. Magicka to have a higher pool, slightly more Damage and higher crit chances. (currently: 20%... I don´t know if there is a big difference between 20 and 24)

Which way would you go?

I'm probably doing things wrong on my Magicka NB but I'm running a 5 piece Magnus, 4/3 piece Torugs Pact
You get 8% chance to negate spell cost, more health (approximately 1100), & a bit more weapon damage on my DW bar

I have very low health as all attributes are in magicka the health is honestly an interchangeable trade off, I'd need the health from elsewhere if I didn't get it from the set bonus. The Weapon Damage bonus along with the bonus from SAp Essence helps my light attack weaver be a bit stronger.

But with only 20% in spell crit you probably want the spell crit

Well to be simple about it

1000 max magicka = 100 spell power (roughly)

Now the issue with a sorc is the higher their magicka the more shield they have, so it makes the issue of giving up some spell power for magicka more confusing.

If you feel your shields aren't great and need a bit more go for magicka but if you really want more dmg then spell power is much better.

Also each character has 11 slots to use ^^ 12 if you dual wield,

Though you could add another torug's pact for more hp and then use 2x adroitness for more spell dmg, if you make a torug pact or magnes set item your weapons then'll you'l still have the bonus but get another slot open in which you could use 4x martial knowledge which will give you max magicka and 2x spell power ^^

@Resipsa: As a Sorc I have powerfull shields, so no need for more HP
@Leepalmer: Thank you, didnt know that Magicka gives me that much Spell Dmg. So the difference will be minor.
    I use Dual Wield.

    Hands, 2nd Sword: Torugs Pact
    Head, Chest, Legs, Shoulders: Magnus
Feet, Belt, 1st Sword: Song of Lamae or Willows Path

Unfortunatly there is no possibility to craft Rings

If you're above vet 10 then you'll find that all the best gear comes from items that cannot be crafted. Not ideal I know if you want to be self-sufficient but that's the way it is.

Current standard DPS sorc gear would be 4 piece Martial Knowledge can be vet 10-14 and drops from monsters and chests. 2 piece Adroitness - one of which needs to be amulet the other a belt but whatever you can find. These come from veteran Crypt of Hearts and drop from 1-12 vet ranks depending on your group leaders level. Two Cyrodiils Light rings either vet 6 or vet 14 if you can afford them. Then a monster set for the other two slots but if you don't have any then Torugs Pact because you'll want dual swords of Torugs Pact for the Spell Damage and either resto staff or destro staff in Torugs on switch.

The cool thing about this gear is it can work on any Magicka DPS character - so sorc, Templar, Dragonknight or Nightblade, the basis is the same - as much spell damage as possible.

Obviously if you're not at a high enough level to get this gear then I suggest Torugs, Magnus and Lamae.

Actually I dont want to spend that much money, 2 weeks before the Imperial City launch. I´ll collect the Overhelming Surge set and other parts when I am V16

Depends some, like myself prefer a dest staff because i like the passives and to medium weave a crushing shock.

2 swords is only viable on a sorc or nb because they have decent magicka class skills, a dk needs a desto staff because thats is most of his dmg.
