@Mdl518 Ahh I see, well.. it's a good job it did pop up, then!

Who else is getting that old Runescape PvP feeling back with Telvar Stones in Imperial city?

I have yet to experience Imperial city, but I know it'll give me the same adrenaline I used to get when I went into the Wildy with gear worth a few million. Rushing back to the bank with loot from enemy players...

    Remember Runescape?

You say that as if it's something really old that died off a long time ago and isn't running any more.

You don't need to "remember" Runescape, it's still there and going strong with millions of players, iirc it's the second or third highest mmo in terms of subscription still.

Is this what we can expect from the latest generation of gamers? Flitting from game to game with short term memories, and nostalgia for something that's still there, next someone will be posting "remember that piece of toast I ate last week?" threads :p

Millions of players? barely, so many players quit. Most of the subs are there playing OSRS, but I doubt there's more than there used to be because apparently its peak was 200k players online, in like.. 2007 or something, not sure.

Check the Guinness book of records, they have the record for the most accounts ever created in an online game, well over 200 million.

Active and online are two different numbers, it's a multi-region game, so while there could be 100k online at one time, a couple of hours later there could be 100k different players online and so on, I was talking about active not online.

Also, one of the numbers we do actually see for RS is the high score board, back in Feb the high score board topped out at around 500,000 people on the board, that's roughly the top 20% to 30% of the active player base, which puts a guesstimate of the active players at the time around 2 to 2.5 million.

That's insane, never knew... but still! the amount online at one time would surely be smaller than it used to be, I think...

True, but online at one time doesn't equate to active, those online at any one time are only a fraction of those with active subscriptions, they could still have millions of people playing, even if it only shows say 80k online at a time, it's spread out over time.

This is why I never understood why most companies won't announce numbers, I think it would curb a lot (not all, there's always some) of the old "X game is dying" posts if we had hard numbers, because people see things like less people playing at their time of play and start thinking the game is dying, when it turns out that he games still going strong because ten time that number are still playing an hour after they log and so on. At least with a hard number of active players (say a monthly announcement that states "X number of unique accounts were logged on and playing of the last month" ) they can see it's not dying.

I can't remember the last time I visited one of them :/

Probably the time I wrote a whole section of new material to add to the game world. About 10yrs or so I guess.

Lol obviously we all played older versions of runescape When we were younger....just saw a video and wanted to remenisce a little bit. Runescape is definitly not the same game it was back in 04-05...so your comment on flitting game to game and short term memories is irrelevant because obviously if we're talking about years ago when we played then how is that short term memory? should we change it to anyone here remember runescape the way it was back when you played it years ago to make you feel better? :)

There are two versions of Runescape live at the moment, the new RS3 and a classic server, both are still doing very well.

I don't doubt it...great game I just kind of grew out of it at the time and I would definitely play old school again but just to see it not to be competitive

I think it needs to be said. As a Runescape 1 classic player, my account is from 2001; I lost membership for a month and now I am no longer able to play Runescape classic ever again. So yes, for me Runescape isn't still there. It is not only nostalgia but now it's obsolete.

Its amazing how people always say it was kids that played, the Quests were really difficult with great puzzles where you actually had to use your brain and not just go fletch this or go talk to such and such or kill x amount of crap and quest complete. The Quests were amazing written and the best ive ever played. You were defo a mature player if you could do the quests without guides. I was a mature player and so was the person that showed me the game

Very true. I think the quests were some of the hardest quests I've ever experienced in any game.
