Tank 1h & shield - does sword, dagger, mace, or axe matter?

As the title says, does it matter if I use a sword, dagger, mace, or axe?

Thanks in advance

It does not make any difference, since there is no passive in the sword+shield line that affects weapon type.

They should add the basic dual wielding effects to 1h and shield.
Maybe remove the damage bonus of the "Sword and Board" passive, and change that for "Twin blade and Blunt" affect.
(But, just for 1 weapon while keeping the blocking bonus)

I perfer sword dabulls but you can also use an axe the mace and dagger are kinda pointless for a tank to use.

As far as I know it doesn't matter since only the dual wield passive that will give you different benefits.
And since there is no passive in the one hand and shield skill line its pointless doing it.

Just take whatever weapon you prefer to wield.

I really wish "Twin Blade and Blunt" from dual wield was a universal concept of all weapons... It's stupid to think you have to hold 2 weapons to actually get a use out of them. Just because I hold one weapon and a shield apparently I don't know how to use a mace vs a sword or something. I mean why should 1 skill line only use these passives?

(FYI if you didn't know, Dual Wield is the only way to make differences in what weapon you choose to hold.)

The only real benifits would be from sets and things like the masters sword.
This one has an eloquent and well thought out response to tha... Ooh sweetroll!

Just go with whichever you have the best traits on. If you have it in multiple, whichever one aesthetically pleases you more.

Wrong. Check the 2H weapon line.

Doesn't it make a difference if you put points into the Champion system (Mage tree) that will increase damage with weapon types? I know sword, daggers and 2H swords are grouped together, while maces, axes and their 2H counterparts are in another. My tank I've put points into the swords as I prefer that look for him, however if I had a Templar tank I could see maces being pretty cool to use.

Yes, it will make a difference here, but that's it. There just isn't a passive in this line that gives different effects to the weapons.

Okay... cool I forgot one more skill line. My point is it isn't universal but limited to skill lines when it shouldn't. Just because my weapon is bigger or I'm holding 2 of them shouldn't mean I all of a sudden know how to more effectively use them.

"Whoa! I can cut people open for bleed damage with an AXE? *Equips shield* Wait? How do I do that again? Oh well!"

Well, 1H&S was made for withstanding damage, not dealing it. I don't get that constant "Realism!!11eleventy" discussion. I am quite okay with the fact that of the three weapon lines where you actually have a choice of weapon type, the two made for dealing damage have passives that supplement this and the one that is supposed to not deal damage has passives that support defense.

But maybe that is only logical in my mind, not universally...
