Choosing a class for a warrior

I play a lot of wargames these days, and when I play MMO's I play as a warrior, not so much a berserker kind of dude, but just a warrior who is all strength, wants to be strong, has only a belief in self, and wants to be a great soldier. The classes in this game seem to all be set up to be magic. What do you think fits in the best with that rock strongo badass? It's probably going to be two handed, and I assume the only thing off the table is a sorcerer. Its tough to decide if a templar or DK makes more sense, and NB seems a bit too far off, but maybe. ill probably roll with an imperial or something cross faction on the faction my friends are playing (I have the imp/adventurer packs), and they are playing AD. I figured a Imp Temp or a Dunmer DK might work if I lay off the finger waggling.

For the traditional heavy armoured brute - Dragonknight or Templar. For the skirmisher type, probably nightblade

Well, any class can be used as a warrior or a magic user, really: it all come down to which skills you are going to use. True, some classes are aimed at a certain playstyle (e.g. Nightblade might be seen as the life stealing, stealthy or assassin type of character; while the sorcerer is clearly seen as a mage-type class), but it's about all.

Keep in mind that any class can use any weapons and armor, and any skills related to that gear. A lot of the classes have the same kind of buffs, but with a different "skin". You can also get a lot of skills from the guild skill lines, so as a warrior, you'll probably end up using a lot of skills which aren't even from your class!

Also, you can think of two big categories of builds: magicka builds (which mostly uses class skills, because almost every class skill costs and is based on magicka) and stamina builds (which use weapon skills, but also guild skills and some class skills which may have a stamina variant, or some buffs, even if they use magicka). The rest is up to you and which skills and attributes you choose.

Templars can be played as Paladin-like (warrior with some divine shields and healing here and there) with a two-handed weapon.

Nightblade can even be played as two-handed assassins (even if we have to admit that almost every stamina Nightblade is a dual-wielding and bow user)!

Dragonknight has a lot of cool skills for a more tanky build, but still, no limit at all when it comes to the weapon they use.

Sorcerers: I have a two-handed wielding and sword and board sorcerer which use some buffs and situationnal skills from the class lines. You can see him as a kind of warrior-mage type of character which uses his magical skills to buff his combat prowess to another level. Despite the fact that it might look odd to players who expect sorcerers to be seen as mages only, it hurts a lot, probably more than most stamina-based characters from other classes (except when it comes to one-shot stealth nightblade builds, but that's another thing and these lack something when it comes to larger scales battles).

I have two characters from every class (one magicka, and one stamina build) at high to max level, and it's my favorite character, even if it lacks something when it comes to defensive abilities in PvP.

Also, consider that everyone can stealth. While Nightblades might have some skills that fit better with a stealthy character-type, they are not the only one that can do it right.

By the way, Dumner might be more oriented toward magicka builds (i.e. magic users) because of their racial bonuses, or at least, they might not be the first choice when it comes to stamina builds.

TL;DR: Do whatever you want, but if you want a two-handed weapon user, choose a race that is oriented towards stamina (Bosmer, Redguard, Imperial or Orsimer), melee damage (Khajiit, Orsimer too ), or health-damage reduction (Imperial, Nord, Orsimer too) and then, choose weapon, class and guild skills that suit your playstyle.

You can play through all the game without ever using one of your "magic" class skills, using a pure stamina build with just weapon skills and fighters guild skills. Though of course, some of those class skills are really neat to have...

In then end, it depends on flavor.
Dragonknights are tanky, throw fire, and earth magic.
Templars can be tanky as well, have heals and golden "holy" magic.
Nightblades are sneaky, make good archers, and have reddish effects for their magic.
Sorcerors have the least in fighting support, case pueple magic, lightning and summon daedric pets - probably the last choice for a pure "warrior" build.

I'd go with Templar if you like heavy armor, follow a "crusader/paladin" theme. Play all stamina, keeping your magical "spears of light" and emergency heals to a minimum...

Nightblade if you prefer burst damage, sneaking and medium armor. Good for archers, scouts, assassins and other kind of rougelike warriors.

Dragonknight might do well with either, though will do best in heavy armor as well... though it will be hard not to use some of their nifty class skills (Mine is argonian, which makes me feel better about all the "dragonish" skills, I often klinda feel like playing a draconian from dragonlance when I "flap my wings" ;) )

Sorceror... is harder as stamina build, though one of my alts is made with a "nord thunder priest" theme, stamina sorceror in medium armor, wielding a two-handed axe, using almost all stamina with only a bit of lightning now and then... it worked better then I expected, to be honest...

All classes can be all things and to achieve the effect you want of "good solider it will come down to choices such as weapon and armour type. Being a stamina build would keep you looking more like your using physical prowess rather than magical talent to fight which would make medium armour attractive but heavy might be more of the look your going for and offers more defence (perhaps wear 2 big heavy such as chest and legs and 5 medium for the 5 piece bonuses) the uppercut move from the two handed tree your guy basically plays baseball with the opponent which makes your character look "strong". The class choice depends on what support abilities you want Templars have heals dragon knights have a ton of defensive options night blades have stealth support and draining skills and sorcs have the summonings and offensive spells.

I would recommend playing whichever you feels looks cooler tbh as if you go into a Stam build most your skills will be from non class trees anyway

You want to play as a "stamina" based character. this lends itself to using mostly weapon skills some buffs and heals maybe magicka, but mostly your bar will have stamina abilities.

Templar/Dragons knight or nightbalde have a few stamina morphs to compliment your arsenal, so you arent stuck with the same two handed dps move, and the animations for these look cool

The biggest problem you will have initially is your "Knight" concept is akin to wearing heavy armour, which is very tanky but can reduce your damage. if this isnt an issue then just pick one of the above.

my preference would be to DK, as my personal preference. But Templar has some really cool abilities and night blade too, but for me there is alot of overlap between the twohanded moves and the nightblade moves. so for something different i'd go more towards dragon knight or templar.

I play very aggressive and I like to be in my opponent's face, and I play as Nightblade; and I'm very successful with it.
