Do hirelings ever send decent items?

XarxesTheScribe
I just realized that almost every day, all I seem to get from my hirelings is a 15g style material, and some raw void bloom/rough nightwood. With all professions maxed, and of course hirelings maxed, this isn't good.

Purples all the time. Golds somewhat infrequently. Also, rare style materials infrequently. Though, your hireling can't give you dwemer scrap or frames, so far as I know.

Hirelings used to be great for getting purple and gold tempers, then they nerfed the drop rate on those because they wanted people to do writs and refine raw mats instead.

You will get some of the base material for the level
    Some style materials
    Some trait materials
Occasional improvement material (green blue purple yellow)

With all characters thats 40 base raw material, 2 times a day.

So 80 base raw material a day, which is ok, especially considering it's in wood/cloth and metalwork. For free

Yeah, as far as I remember you cannot get golds until you've maxed out the hireling passive. I know it used to work that way on raw material refinement, though that was before the 1.6 updates to refine rates.

I have 5. All except alchemy. Get them twice a day.

I get at least 2 purples a day (provisioning gives about 5-8 purples when it does) and gold every other day usually.

    Get daedra hearts/palladium often too.

RNGesus just doesn't like you apparently.

I have my Hireling maxed out on Clothing and Blacksmithing, and every day I get a Dwarven Oil/Embroidery (Blue), Grain Solvent (Purple), etc.

Hell, my Miner hireling even dropped off two Daedra Hearts last night. I wanna buy that Hireling a steak dinner or something.

But in answer to your original question; yes, the Hirelings do drop off some really good stuff.

80 raw mats every category combined is a quantity you can farm in, say, 15 minutes.
And hirelings are NOT for free : they cost skill points, very precious skill points (believe me, once you start needing 1 optimized build for PVP, 1 for solo PVE, 1 for your main role, 1 for your off-role, 1 for raids, eventually 1 for each raid... skill points end up being the rarest resource in the game). By the way, I know some new skyshards will come with IC, I saw something like 2 per district, I hope it's more... because 2x6=12 shards = 4 skill points, that's a misery... :-(

I get greens, blues, and even purples regularly. Golds are rare, but between all my hirelings on all of my characters I probably average about a gold a day. Most of my kutas seem to come from writs, though, by a long shot.

Also, if you've got multiple hirelings on multiple characters, it doesn't take that long for the raw mats to build up (with zero time and effort - I'd rather put the skill points in the hirelings to get the raw mats than spend an extra 20 minutes or so every single day to get the same results), and with the right passives you've got decent chances of getting good stuff from refining those raw mats.

Ok. Gave up on finding the quote. However, as others have said, mostly I get junk, but the few gold/purple crit items I get for spending one skill point is worth it. As @anitajoneb17_ESO said, though, supporting running a healer/dps/offtank build takes all my skill points. I am actively looking for ANY skill points I dont have before IC drops, because I will need at least 3 more SP to up my blacksmithing/clothing/woodworking to tier 10. I dont have enough to run more than one hireling. Their extra items are not worth another skill point anyway. Plus, the storys are stopped again.

It's not quite every day, although that would be nice. It seems on average I'll get a purple or gold every 2 to 3 days and I have hireling maxed out on all 6 trades. I also have seen a pattern that if one hireling sends a purple or gold, a few more will on the same day. They come in bunches

Depends on your definition of decent items I guess. To me the raws and style stones / trait stones are pretty useless. Yes even the daedra hearts, because they are easy enough to farm or get.

Its the uprade materials that can make or break the worthwhile barrier. Golds are great but the drop rate is so low now that I wouldn't consider it a good investment. The purples drop fairly frequently, but the rest is just meh...

It is sometimes difficult to justify the skill point cost for infrequent good stuff and small quantities of raws imo

Hirelings used to send gold items everyday, especially having a bunch of alts with crafting skills leveled. ZOS nerfed them and now your lucky to get a gold item once a week. Now you have to refine items to get more legendary mats which is perfect for those who were pig farming. Not to mention they got way more legendary mats than those who had multiple crafting toons. Good job ZOS...good job.

Even if they don't. The raw mats are valuable if you have the passives maxed out. You can get a fair amount of gold and purple improvers from them.

Indeed. Sometimes the messages are worth much more than the items he attaches. They can get pretty funny.
