Destruction Staff Help

Hello i need to ask a few questions on destruction staff and i searched everywhere but found no answers so I was wondering if you could help...

Ok so I have a fire staff equipped.... and I also using Destructive clench... Now for me it says magic damage... but when I go to swap it out with another skill on the far right of my screen (when it compares the skill I'm swapping with) it says flame clench... dealing flame damage immediately and then flame damage over seconds... Instead of magic....

So does that mean using a fire staff it instead does fire damage instead of magic?

Also if it does fire damage does the dot also work with my DK 66% passive? Thanks :)

All the skills (except for the second) in the destruction staff line will change their "element" to the element of the respective destruction staff equipped, at least in appearance and name. So if you equip an inferno staff, you will get "fire clench", "wall of fire" and "fire ring". If you use a lightning staff, those turn into "shock clench", "wall of lightning" and "shock ring".

The DoT component is definitely elemental, though. So if you equip an inferno staff, all these spells will cause "burning", with an ice staff that is going to be "frozen" and with a lightning staff, you get "concussed". The damage increasing passives for dragon knights have been changed a while ago, but I'm pretty sure that the DoT increase from the "Kindling" passive also increases the "Burning"-DoT generated by destruction staff abilities.

I remember a thread that indicated that the damage caused by some of the destruction staff abilities will still be increased by "Thaumaturge" star in the Ritual constellation instead of the "Elemental Expert" star in the Apprentice constellation, thus indicating that the game registers them as magic damage and not fire/frost/lightning damage, but I can't find it right now and have not repeated that test to verify. Also it may be "old news" and been changed since, so please take that with a grain of salt.

    Hope that helps.
