ESO Plus

Robert_E_Pee
Hey guys I have a quick question about ESO Plus. I am about to buy it for my first time and I'm just making sure that if I decide to buy it now, will I get the Imperial City DLC when it comes out? And also when will I get my crowns for being Plus? At the beginning of September or once I buy?

On PC I got the crowns instantly after signing up for plus. For the DLC you will have access to it as long as you remain a plus member. If you cancel plus you will have to buy the DLC from the crown store.

The DLC comes out on August 31, September 15, and September 16, depending on the platform. A 30 day subscription will get you Imperial City on all platforms, but close to the end of the subscription term. If you are intending to continue paying, or purchase more than 30 days on the PC, you will be fine purchasing now. If your intent is to get the DLC, there is no hurry.

You will get the entire amount of crowns right away when you purchase the subscription. If you purchase 30 days, you will get 1500, for 90 days you will get 4500, and for 180 days you will get 9000 crowns. You do not get the crowns in monthly installments, or at the beginning of the month. You get them all at once.

With ESO+ Membership, you're renting the DLC.
You'll still have acquired gear, etc, but if you let your membership expire, you'll lose access to the DLC.
I believe you can buy it for 2500 Crowns, and you'll never lose access.

Considering ESO+ is pretty cheap AND you get free crowns I can see why you'd lose the DLC if you cancel your sub. People would just sub, get the DLC and their free crowns, and then cancel.

It does state on the store page in the Overview: "Please note that access to DLC Game Packs granted by ESO Plus™ is only available while your membership remains active."

@Robert_E_Pee If you sub for two months you'll earn enough crowns to buy the Imperial City DLC after your sub ends. It costs 2500 crowns and you'll earn 3000 crowns for being subbed for two months.

But also keep in mind ESO plus gives you access to ALL DLC, the current one and all future.

So it seems like not such a good deal when we are speaking in terms of single DLC, but when we are 5 DLCs in along with the Crowns and Bonuses you'll probably be better off with the ESO Plus.

Plus you get the chance to review the DLCs and if you do decide to cancel you can use your unused crows to buy ONLY the DLCs that you liked.

I can tell you that having ESO+ makes the decision to roll an ALT that much easier.

When there are 5 DLC, only the last or last two will be somewhat playable. ZOS's busines model obliges them to make every next DLC superior to the previous to coerce people to buy it. They will either put some superior rewards in, such as top tier gear, or nerf existing content, or combination of both. In fact even such simple and innocuous change like increase of exp yields will serve very well, because it will make players go out of sync with free content or content they already have sooner and if they wanted to find appropriate challenge or rewards for their level, they would have to buy the latest DLC.

Right now, the membership isn't worth it, imo.
If you intend to PvP a lot, then the dlc may make it worth the cost.
Or just rent it for 1-2 months
If you don't like it, just get crown packs for bigger bang for your dollar.

I think the pricing is what decides it. $15 gets you a 1500 crown pack or you can sub for one month for $15 and get the xp bonus and the crowns (plus DLC access while the sub is up). So unless there is something you just can't wait to buy, its never worth it to buy crown packs. Even if you own all the DLC already, sub for a few months and build up the crowns you need while enjoying the xp bonus.

Now naturally ZoS has tried to combat this logic a bit by having limited time items. I think the hope there is that you'll buy a crown pack even though you're subbed just to get the item.

That's true if you're only considering the 1,500 crown pack (or the smaller ones) but the bigger ones work out cheaper than buying crowns with a sub.

I don't know the American prices but in the UK it's like this:
    1,500 crown pack/sub: £9 - £0.60 per 100 crowns
    3,000 crown pack: £15 - £0.50 per 100 crowns
    5,500 crown pack: £24 - £0.43 per 100 crowns

So if you're not interested in the XP bonus and willing to save any extra crowns until something you actually want comes out instead of wanting to spend them right away buying the bigger packs as and when you need them can be cheaper. I bought one 5,500 crown pack back in March and I've still got about 1/2 of them. Combined with the fact that all my characters are always over-levelled for the quests they're doing I don't think buying a sub would make any sense to me.

Maybe in future when there's a few different DLCs out I'll sub for a month or so to try them and decide which one/s I want to buy (although I can also try them on the PTS).

That depends on how often they release DLC. Currently the subscription is a horrible deal because I doubt they'll be able to release DLC worth 2500+ Crowns every two months. Anytime they take more than two months, then you are losing money on the subscription. The benefits of the subscription, otherwise, just aren't there.

Buy the game and buy your DLC. Skip the subscription for now, IMO.

I've had to many problems with ESO plus to keep buying it. I had to buy it twice do to a error. Support here told me to contact microsoft, microsoft told me to contact this support. This month with the update on XBOX, it didn't even auto renew. I think I'm done with it. To much hassle for so little.

Yep, second month with no ESO+ crowns. I know this month there was also a hiccup on MS' side (I had a payment issue, but I just learned that there was a server issue). I have my in-game buffs again and access to DLC, but still no crowns.

And on XB, you can only pay monthly, so the Crown packs are a better deal. On PC you can purchase memberships in 3-month and 6-month allotments for discounted prices.

I've been a loyal subscriber since early access on PC and my transfer to console, but this is my last month of ESO+. The in-game buffs aren't enough for me (and all my characters are over-leveled anyway), and I don't care AT ALL about IC.
