Realistically how often should you upgrade...

Your armor? I recently was able to craft a couple different sets for one of my toons with the exception of someone crafting 2 pieces for me. I'm VR1 and I didn't know how often through the ranks you would want to remake or change as I get more traits unlocked. Just curious as it seems like a waste of material and mats to make new for each VR for that matter. If someone could enlighten me I'd greatly appreciate it.

I personally upgrade every 2 or 3 Veteran Ranks. I like to be as tough as possible. Although, outside of upgrading, I change my armor every level. I love crafting, though, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you do. There's just so much time between Veteran Ranks. If you don't want to keep up with your highest points in your armor, go every three or so. It doesn't much matter.

I upgrade every level - and use blue gear. I'm quite the hoarder though, so I have the materials to spare. I also was always using crafted gear up until VR13. If you're using dropped gear or don't have the mats to spare though, I would only upgrade every 2 or 3 levels (depending on how quick you seem to be levelling, and if anything gets difficult)

I generally change gear if it drops 2 or 3 levels below my rank and I change when the material I need for my gear changes . If you are not short of materials then what's the harm in upgrading every level ? You might just want to try another style or set or combination of sets .

For vet levels I would craft a new set every tier. So every 3ish levels. I usually just keep them green until I hit v6 or so.

For non vet I go 4-6 levels. You are a bit squishy if you go further. I have done 8 levels before, but I was just too lazy to make new.

If you are buying the sets I would base it on how iften you die or come close to dying.

When leveling I craft gear at level ~9-10, then after that whenever I reach a new material tier; like 16,26,36,46; VR1,4,7,9 I believe. Only improved to green quality, except maybe a blue main hand weapon. More than this I have found to be overkill and a waste of resources.

Depends what content you do (I don't PvP), and how many traits you have unlocked. There are some decent sets at only 2,3,4 traits.

Addendum: if you use food regularly you can go even more levels between upgrades. Provisioning is a great craft too. Always roll on a full stomach if you wanna always roll the bad guys!

Well the scaling is pretty linear so let's say you're VR5 and you're wearing purple.

At VR6 blue will be the same as your purple.
At VR7 green will be the same as your purple.

So there really is no difference, other than the vast cost, from making an armor set every level that's green compared to wearing a purple set still that's 2 levels lower than your level.

Personally, I craft all blues and wear that set for 2 levels.

Thanks for the advice. I actually love crafting. I was pretty stoked when I was finally able to craft what I crafted. Thanks again.

Yes, if you have the mats - craft away! I always went blue although as I mentioned, make sure you have excess mats. You don't want to burn up all your upgrade materials in the levelling process. Green would be fine - especially if you decide to upgrade every level.

It really depends on the quality of the upgrade. A green item last half as long as a blue which is half as long as a purple. For the Vet Levels, my wife and I swapped out our blue armor every two levels. If your using all purple you can easily go 2-5 levels with one set. Once you get to an area and start having a hard time with fighting, that's when you would want to upgrade it with current level armor. It's a waste of upgrade materials to turn a blue set to purple if it's at a lower level than you are.

While leveling I only craft when I hit the next tier of resources, in vet ranks I go every rank unless I'm using a pc that's not available from a set, those I use til I see lacking results

well apart from the traits on the armour still being higher at purple.

Every 3 vet levels is fine though, there not much difference.

100% agree with this as I've done the same exact thing.

I did vet 1, vet 4, vet 7, vet 9 and just tonight, vet 12.

Been making them blue everytime and my vet 12 purple.

Will make it next at 14 and go purple again. Not sure when to use my alloys...

    Upgrade every 2 levels.

    Only improve to blue tier.

Improve to gold at VR 14.

I'm not even sure about going gold at 14 with the two new levels out soon. Will they fake the same amount of time as previous vet levels or require more? If it's the same, I'll be at 16 in less than two weeks of them coming out.

Well so far, from what i gather, I am going to do it 1,4,7,9,12, and 14. I upgraded all my gear at VR1 to blue. Hopefully by vr4 i'll have plenty more mats and materials. Also, much more research on traits done for possible better sets like hundings rage.
Thanks to everyone who put their input it on this matter. Learned a lot.
