Or you could use Pinnacle or XPadder and do more with your controller than console can with theirs...bc Master Race ;)

Going to be real crappy when "controller support" comes if PC can't still use better programs
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Im laughing at the fact they released this game on PS4 and XBOX ....and have yet to provide PC controller support. That is the joke. Alienware Alpha (which is also a GOOD and REASONABLY priced console) can out perform both PS4 and XBOX One....yet ESO has no controller support for it. That should be standard...I shouldn't have to go buy Xpadder

Ignorance is bliss. Every time I hear "Alienware is OVER PRICED"....I have to laugh...and realize that the person screaming for me to go to iBuyPower....never even looked at the Alienware specs. Most of the time they don't even know what theyre saying....like this one for example. Sir...please explain how Alienware Alpha is funny. The only come back they have is "BUILD YOUR OWN PC"....just regurgitating what they hear their friends say with no statistics behind it.

Didn't see *that* part the first time.

I've never purchased a computer intended for gaming. I've always built my own.

I have not, however, built a controller for gaming. I've always purchased those.

(That's the point behind my post, in case you can't put that together.)

My friends / coworkers message me all the time something along the lines of, "I was looking at buying (over-priced Pre-Built box). Can it play (random sub-par game title) on Ultra?" - To which I reply with a PCPartPicker URL of a build that exceeds the performance of the aforementioned Pre-Built box at less or equal price (or) is equal in performance at a lower price...plus the cost of a 12-pack of a locally brewed IPA that I love.

So...no, not "like this one." ;)

You'll have alot of issues with your alienware. Good luck.

Three of us spent 4k , 5k , 6k on alienware computers and not one works today. Their techs put noncompatible componets in my alienware. I served overseas and my warranty went out. Now im stuck with a 5k paper weight.

For $850 you get a mobile-grade i7 and a GeForce 860m (a mid-range laptop GPU). For the same price, you could build a MUCH stronger microATX PC, that is upgradeable on top of that.

Granted, the $500 model is comparable to consoles if you want that whole "set it and forget" thing. It may be a bit better, but not by much, and will fall behind a PC you build yourself very, very quickly.

Also, Alienware is overpriced. All pre-builts are. This is common knowledge. You either don't know that, or don't care, but you can't argue that they are not overpriced when compared to the cost of parts and like 1-2 hours of your own labor.

Using the same parts as the base $500 Alienware Alpha, you could build the same system for $425 after sales and rebates. Not a bad deal (didn't include controller and OS in that build as well), but the gap widens quite a bit for each step up after that. Starting at around the $675 mark, you can get much more for your dollar building yourself. After that, there's no comparison between building your own vs pre-made.

Well, that's always the case. PC retailers/manufacturers cash in on the casual market who believe in Ads. People who have no knowledge or are just afraid to try it and mess something up. Like my wife, she loves gaming on PC, but there is no way on gods green earth she will ever understand or even want to understand what's in it or how it works. I could spend years trying to explain that CPU does this and GPU does this and it just won't sink in, because it's a mentality of " If it works, I'm happy, if it doesn't - buy a new one".

People don't realize that this is the majority of PC users, they maybe know how to use the software but have no intention delving into the hardware part of the PC, and if their monetary situation allows it, they will never have to. I even know several programmers that used to make rather sophisticated programs and databases back in Uni, but never in a million years they could build a compatible and proper PC. They only know what they must to get their program running, nothing else. And this applies in majority of cases. Believe it or not, us PC geeks are a tiny fraction of the entire PC userbase and probably always will be.

I bought alienware alpha for $475 with a warranty for like $25 on Amazon. So with a warranty I was around $500. With a self built system not only does it not come with the warranty for the entire thing...but the UI is not setup for steam/controller gaming.....I honestly don't see how it's a bad deal at all. I mean an Alienware alpha i7 MIGHT get you 3-4 frames more...meaning at 60 FPS you might see 56 FPS on a i3...but over 30 FPS the human eye can't even tell the difference. Now is a i7 worth $1000? Probably not. But an i3 for $475...that is built primarily for steam gaming with a controller....I just don't see the down side. Plus worst case scenario is that you sell it on Amazon for half off. What I really want is the steam machine coming out in November.

Of course I bought an Alienware i3....and as much as people chuckle...if you actually read up on the specs you'll realize it's a "decent" purchase. The i7 is overkill. The i5 was $300 more...and it's hard for me to justify $300 extra for an i5. However, the i3 is BETTER than a PS4 and XBOX One. Also, the Alienware Alpha i3 has UI setup for gaming on your TV....plug and play. I understand the importance of building your own desktop....but when it comes to gaming consoles that primarily use a controller...the Alienware Alpha i3 is the best choice on the market right now for gaming "consoles"

Most of the time they don't even know what theyre saying....like this one for example. Sir...please explain how Alienware Alpha is funny. The only come back they have is "BUILD YOUR OWN PC"....just regurgitating what they hear their friends say with no statistics behind it.

Yea like I said, that's not a bad deal at all for that $475 machine. It competes with consoles right where it should. It's just the further you go up in price for pre-builts, the more a DIY build will blow its doors off.

However, I do have to correct you on the "over 30 FPS the human eye can't even tell the difference." This is a widely held misconception that has been spread as part of gaming and console marketing. Here is one example showing you the difference between 30 and 60fps, and here is another, and another.

Edit: Another good example, and here's a link to a nice discussion about comparing "frames per second" across humans and computers.

    theres your downside

ALL computer prices drop significantly after the initial purchase....even reselling parts
the problem is your buying a name that isnt so reputable and over priced for what it is, and then the defense is "you can just sell it". well how about dont buy it and get something more reliable that can be future proof. for that same amount of money you can get a barebones kit, very little to put together, and longevity because you know exactly what you put into it. building a computer is not that hard.

Of course I bought an Alienware i3...

Then you're one of the people I'd answer "no" to. I don't think I need to list the multitude of reasons why I'd say "no". But I would sit down with you, gauge your level of expectations with a hard-cap budget and build from there.

One look at the spec sheet shows a 5.4K RPM platter drive and an undisclosed "nVidia GTX" video card. A base configuration of 4GB of (slow) RAM and a very limiting size for any component upgrade down the line. They want you to buy another one in a year or two when you realize it's not making the cut any longer. Maybe even "splurge" and not opt for the base model??

I hope you enjoy it, I really do. But I would have forked over a few more dollars and bought something that would last twice as long.

If you're arguing in regards to Consoles and the value per dollar...I can't even "go there". I don't know the what a Console costs as I don't have any of them. They are however custom built with specs that *every* game designer knows and can push to the limit, so they can squeeze-out more performance with less in the hardware department...sorta...I don't feel like getting into that one.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm home from work and have some Pledges to run. Cheers!

    Alienware in title ? Check.

Claiming it's better to buy prebuilt than building yourself ? Check

Mentions an i3 as a good gaming cpu ? Check.

Claiming humans can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps ? Check.

This has , HAS , to be a trolling thread , no one can really be so misinformed.

Exactly, all prebuilts are over priced because they charge you for building it. It's not as complicated as back in the day when you had to manually place jumpers with tweezers, if you can use a screw driver, can install software, and can read directions and do a little research online you can build your own and get better for the same price if not less.

Oh and Ibuypower is not building your own, that's ordering a custom prebuilt.

So yeah I will laugh at people that buy alienware or should I say dell pre builts.

I really didn't mean to start anything though I was just being funny.....in that spirit of things:

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.
