I'm confused...are you guys laughing at poor pc controller support or at people who buy alienware or just at people that use controllers?

Ignorance is bliss. Every time I hear "Alienware is OVER PRICED"....I have to laugh...and realize that the person screaming for me to go to iBuyPower....never even looked at the Alienware specs. Most of the time they don't even know what theyre saying....like this one for example. Sir...please explain how Alienware Alpha is funny. The only come back they have is "BUILD YOUR OWN PC"....just regurgitating what they hear their friends say with no statistics behind it.

For $850 you get a mobile-grade i7 and a GeForce 860m (a mid-range laptop GPU). For the same price, you could build a MUCH stronger microATX PC, that is upgradeable on top of that.
Granted, the $500 model is comparable to consoles if you want that whole "set it and forget" thing. It may be a bit better, but not by much, and will fall behind a PC you build yourself very, very quickly.
Also, Alienware is overpriced. All pre-builts are. This is common knowledge. You either don't know that, or don't care, but you can't argue that they are not overpriced when compared to the cost of parts and like 1-2 hours of your own labor.

Using the same parts as the base $500 Alienware Alpha, you could build the same system for $425 after sales and rebates. Not a bad deal (didn't include controller and OS in that build as well), but the gap widens quite a bit for each step up after that. Starting at around the $675 mark, you can get much more for your dollar building yourself. After that, there's no comparison between building your own vs pre-made.

GO BUILD YOUR OWN PC
*EDIT*blah blah blah....like this one for example...blah blah blah
Didn't see *that* part the first time.
I've never purchased a computer intended for gaming. I've always built my own.
I have not, however, built a controller for gaming. I've always purchased those.
(That's the point behind my post, in case you can't put that together.)
My friends / coworkers message me all the time something along the lines of, "I was looking at buying (over-priced Pre-Built box). Can it play (random sub-par game title) on Ultra?" - To which I reply with a PCPartPicker URL of a build that exceeds the performance of the aforementioned Pre-Built box at less or equal price (or) is equal in performance at a lower price...plus the cost of a 12-pack of a locally brewed IPA that I love.
So...no, not "like this one."

I bought alienware alpha for $475 with a warranty for like $25 on Amazon. So with a warranty I was around $500. With a self built system not only does it not come with the warranty for the entire thing...but the UI is not setup for steam/controller gaming.....I honestly don't see how it's a bad deal at all. I mean an Alienware alpha i7 MIGHT get you 3-4 frames more...meaning at 60 FPS you might see 56 FPS on a i3...but over 30 FPS the human eye can't even tell the difference. Now is a i7 worth $1000? Probably not. But an i3 for $475...that is built primarily for steam gaming with a controller....I just don't see the down side. Plus worst case scenario is that you sell it on Amazon for half off. What I really want is the steam machine coming out in November.

the problem is your buying a name that isnt so reputable and over priced for what it is, and then the defense is "you can just sell it". well how about dont buy it and get something more reliable that can be future proof. for that same amount of money you can get a barebones kit, very little to put together, and longevity because you know exactly what you put into it. building a computer is not that hard.ThatNeonZebraAgain wrote: »
