The PlayStation™ Network service interruption has been resolved. Thank you for your patience.

Please don't automatically reset my skill points with the IC patch.

I understand the fear of confusion on patch day, but just make use of a pen and paper and write down what skills you are using now so you can relearn them in less than a minute on the day.
That's no good for people who aren't aware that it's going to happen until it's too late, as they won't have had the chance to record their builds.

I am wondering what method ZoS will use to communicate this reset to players that do not use the forums.

    Same as every other MMO.

Player logs in. BIG WORDS ON THE SCREEN. "ALL YOUR SKILL POINTS HAVE BEEN RESET DUE TO CHANGES IN HOW THEY WORK."

Forum threads should be fun to read on patch day then.
To be honest, as irritating as it is, this is only a new process to those who have started playing the game since 1.6 dropped. I expect there will be some rage threads from console players, but not a whole heck of a lot from PC players (even if, like me, they don't like the way it gets handled) because for the most part we've been there done that.
Yeah. I was thinking from the perspective of a console player. Specifically, a "casual" console player that will not have kept informed about all the things happening on the PTS as these changes get tweaked before going live.
A character-locked respec scroll in the mail would address all these problems... :disappointed:

If I am mistaken about how the respec is done, then please disregard this post.
You're not mistaken and many people have asked ZOS NOT to auto-respec when logging in but all such requests have fallen on deaf ears and I see no reason to expect any difference now.

I have it myself, but all MMOs do it, seems it's one of the universal hazards of playing MMOs.

Agree. I fail to see why they can't provide the option without forcing it.

It is the same with so many things (e.g. console control remap) they just force their way upon everyone.

Anyone would think that they have zero interest in/awareness of what players do and simply address everything from an internal standpoint.

The art department is awesome but the systems department...

Come on @ZOS_GinaBruno, lets give some consideration to impact on players please.

    I can't wait.

I recently paid 11k to respec and stupidly wasted 3 off the bat by upgrading connesuir instead of gourmand. I wasn't those 3 skill points back!

What we need is a skill point template we can just load up like in Guild Wars instead of painstakingly starting all over again
takes forever and makes me not want to respec

There are addons for that. Wykkyd Outfitter is a good one.

Aside from the fact that all Outfitter does is save a bar layout and/or equipment set and does nothing to help you distributing skillpoints, that recommendation is to be taken with a grain of salt. I reference this sad topic that does not get any more much needed green attention.

I must admit to hating the principle of mandatory respecs on log-in, it forces your hand and while I can understand the reason for it (the old spec might cause instabilty if maintained after skills have been changed or removed from the game), it really should be accompanied with at least one free re-spec token that you can use at the time of your choice. That way if you do mess up the mandatory respec then you can at least fix it without being penalised.

It isn't practical for many players to try these things out on the PTS, nor should it be necessary. Helpful yes, necessary no - not least when console players don't even have the option.

As for the "simple" task of noting down all your skill and attribute allocations before the patch hits, I say just this - mandatory respecs are the bane of every altoholic's life  !

Welcome to mmos. You'll have to adjust.

Of all the MMOs that I have played, this is the first time I've ever seen a mass forced skill reset.

Maybe you just weren't playing (random MMO title) when there was a large change and thus a reset? It happens in every game.

Traditionalists... Always the same. "It has been done thus for all times, be content and bow to the superiority of tradition!"

There are mechanisms in game that allow voluntary respecs (the crown store scrolls). What is the downside to send one to every char instead of force resetting all skill points? It doesn't even flood the mail system, since these mails are generated on login of the respective char, similar to the hireling mails.

I agree with not wanting a forced reset. I would much prefer a one-time free respec at the shrines, or a free respec scroll for each character. I have a thread about that here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-GB/discussion/204247/skill-reset-with-2-1#latest

Why is this even an issue? The amount of gold that is needed to respec is a drop in the bucket.

Not a drop in the bucket for me.

My last respec was thousands of gold. I'm not a big player in the economy of the game and only have so much time to spend looting. My gold is a bit limited and takes time to make.

but yeah, not that big of an issue for those of us that are aware of the impending refund of skill points.
