Changing Character Appearance, thread #3,456,285

At this point I'm willing to pay cash... $5 or so seems about right.

I'd also like to see the sliders translated to actual values that could be input. By that, I could then exactly model one character after another in terms of appearance.

I was surprised to find that you couldn't even look at your character from a top-down or bottom-up view to see how the face looks at these angles. Only being able to spin it on one axis is pretty bad for character creation and makes you have to assume some details, which has lead me to restart my character a few times when I was just beginning.

Why would you even say that before it's been released.? People wonder why there's so much overpriced garbage on the crown store. Because rather than waiting to see if certain things will be free, like a patch update or included in proper dlc, people make up the devs minds before it's even hit the game.

Even if it's just having a one off character alteration, it should be free for the first use. Even if that one off alteration comes packaged in a large dlc. A bit like the Riften face sculptor was included as part of the Dawnguard dlc.

Some people nowadays aim all their vitriol towards the likes of Sony, EA, MS, Ubi etc because they charge for everything and anything, yet completely ignore the fact that it's the consumer that ultimately decides whether these cash grabs are acceptable or not. After all, if people wouldn't buy any old garbage, it wouldn't be their interests to charge for any old garbage. It's the rest of us that end up with a watered down experience whilst those that will buy anything get everything they want because they're willing to pay absurdly high prices for things that used to be included in games as standard. No doubt it won't be long until we have to pay for difficulty sliders, sound adjusters etc next

The only thing I need is to be able to change my hair style.
Now I'm not a programmer, but how hard can it be?
Haven't they made a ton of money off console sales, and can hire the manpower needed? Lawd! :(

    two reasons:
    1. I can name numerous other MMOs that have a pay model for appearance change (cosmetics). It seems to be industry standard. If they want to offer it for free then even better.
    2. Because cash talks, and @*#&^@ walks. I'd like to see this sooner than never, and I'll wager that money might be a better motivator for ZOS, than "players want".

I'm all for an in game gold solution as well, or a one time free token. I just want the change ASAP. And the slider values.

Odd, I aways get my Khajiit and Altmer females looking the same in game as they were in the character generator.

I'd pay ten bucks for a "change your character as many times as you want" scroll. Or whatever. That's different. But I'm not paying 5 or 10 bucks to change Steve Buschemi just to find out he's just Steve Buschemi with a tan. Then pay ANOTHER ten bucks to get it right...

My Khajiit and Argonians always look right. Shrug?

One could hope that maybe instead of a big payment for entry into the recustomization screen, they might implement a system adding a small cost for each slider moved from "current value" to a running total, to be paid when satisfied and pressing the "make it so" button...

Slider values so you can make notes and recreate appereance... might be a good thing, even though I doubt many will bother...

I guess I'm one of those few that managed to get my character looking exactly as I wanted him to look. But I agree with this thread, there needs to be some kind of in-game "barber" or something to change minor details such as hairstyle, body/face paint and tattoos, scars etc, then have some cash shop option that lets us remake the character entirely.

Would be nice if they added a bit more depth to the options. Like being able to have horns and a beard on my orc at the same time instead of one or the other. Please ZOS? Do it for the Orcs.

In addition to changing my height, I would also like to revisit the character creator so I can make post adjustments to my vampire character.

I'm so longing for any service like this, too!

And as already proposed, it'd make a lot of sense to have both, an in game option to make trivial changes of a character's styling etc. and a service to completely reshape the phenotype (via Crown Store or whatever)! There're thousands of likely reasons to regret a decision you made about a char, not least because they look so very different depending on what kind of gear you wear and so on. And yes, sometimes this takes a whole lot of time to realize and getting annoyed at it. Thus, I'm pretty sure, a lot of players desire to revise their decision with the character creation and I don't see any good reason why such a simple service shouldn't be provided. Actually, it's a standard option among most of the popular MMOs for very good reasons, besides it being quite profitable. ZOS should give this request a lot more priority, since it's on the wish lists of so many people. Are there more pressing issues? Maybe!... or maybe not. As far as I and a lot of players I know are concerned, it is important and I know, I'm the complete oposite of alone with that. It harms the fun you experience in a game like that to a very notable extent. So please developers, make it happen very soon!

If you feel the same way, give them a feedback ticket in game and let them know! The more people request, the more likely it is for it to climb up the hierarchy of issues on their 'list'!

Bring out the dead horse, it deserves another beating. I have noticed this is a pretty popular request in the forums, and for good reason.

A character almost always looks different in the game than in the generator.

Maybe it's the lighting in the generator, maybe it's the limited angles in the thing, but a character almost always looks different in the game itself. I spent hours making a perfect replica of myself in Fallout 3 only for me to come out in-game looking like somebody beat me in the face with a stick during my formative years. I tried making Red Sonya in Skyrim, and in the generator she was beautiful. In-game, her face looked like somebody dropped a ham down a flight of steps. It isn't just you, Zenimax (and Bethesda). I think this holds true for pretty much any game. I was recently playing another big-budget fantasy RPG from another studio and made a great looking elf with a big smile and bright eyes. She came out looking like she was wrung through a lemon squeezer, grumpy as hell. This isn't the only good reason for an appearance change, though...

Good roleplayers like to imagine their characters growing and changing as they play.

Maybe my Khajiit has grey hair and an eye patch by the time she's Veteran rank. Maybe my Bosmer got a tan. My sorcerer's been at the receiving end of so many danged inferno attacks that she probably deserves that "burned all over the face and body" option in the character generator. A good player gains an attachment to their characters and wants to watch them grow as they play. Being able to change a character's appearance allows us to immerse ourselves in this fashion. After saving Tamriel from the evil machinations of Malcolm McDowell, I'd like to venture into Cyrodiil with a mohawk and warpaint and go crazy on some people in PvP. I've earned it at that point. I can save the world, but I can't shave my head?

Please don't charge real money for it.

Seriously. We are already buying wedding dresses, lizard steeds, and hilarious little pets that do little except make us look totally awesome. We can probably all expect to buy at least one or two respectification scrolls in our lifetimes. I think this is basic enough that it should be implemented simply to prevent the "deleted and remade my character three times tonight and he still looks like Steve Buschemi" problem. I'm happy to keep giving Zenimax my money, because I am into their game pretty deep and intend to stay there for a long time. Giving us this one for "free" (IE not real-life money) would be a stellar gesture on their part.

Hi drama queen. Your choice of numbers is way off. If it were accurate, things would be different.

Could not hurt to have an appearance change/barber shop implemented, but I can't see it being for free. They have a hard time trying to find things to add into the crown store without people crying about it as it is.
    Let's meet half way.

    - Ridiculous hair styles for in game gold (Bowl haircut, Friar tuck style, the bart simpson, crazy cat lady, etc)
    - More exotic styles in the crown store that actually look good and won't make people laugh at you

    That's a good compromise I think.

I know many even myself have talked about it being in the crown store but after thought...it should be an in-game thing.

Maybe our friend Cadwell or one of the shrines thanks to Mara could change the characters.

Indeed it should be an in-game thing.

I have stated my hopes for this before...

Wishing they would make it a barbershop-type stand in every major city where people can buy "everyday" changes to hairstyle, makeup & adornments with gold... with more options to be sold in the crown store so they make profit of this one as well... more hairstyles, more beardstyles, more maeup options perhaps even unusual hair dyes... (great, now I am thinking of a pale, thin maormer or snow elf character with green hair and a nasty sense of humor... ) And of course, they need not make new options available in the crown store -only- they could also add them to some achievements as reward... prison tats for the justice system, anyone?

And a "plastic sorcery provicer" in some far off place (coldharbour maybe? Reality seems a bit thin there, its a place all reach in their questing, and at a stage in their character development where rerolling is no longer much of an option...) who for a crown cost will allow people to make all the "structural" changes to their character - from height to voice, from skin color to shape, even gender or race might be possible through the power of magic and alchemy (there are several quests where peoples races get changed through potions or curses in the game...). Best if the thing was done with a small culmulative cost per slider changed, to be paid when satisfied and using the "make it so" button rather then a high "gate cost" for entering the change screen - that way it would be more accessible to people, and less vexation if someone forgot one small detail, since they just would have to pay for that detail to be fixed, and not the whole gate cost...

And then there could also be a "recordkeeping clerk" in your factions capital who will change your name in the official records for a handful of crowns... since renaming should also be in the game, and that sort of thing would make more sense then merely tacking it on to one of the other "changer" NPCs.

Much, much better then just selecting some "change this" option from the crown store screen...

    Please, ZoS, implement this.

Any updates on this yet? I was just about to delete a low level character for the dozenth time... still no max level characters because i'm always rerolling... Silly, I know.
