Welcome to my idea of what would add a lot more fun to ESO, especially for long term players.

Player Housing!

Player housing has been featured in past Elder Scrolls games as something that allowed players to enjoy their questing and accomplishments by letting them settle down, decorate and hoard stuff in a fun way. In ESO, it would solve the annoyance that most players deal with of creating "pack mule" characters, encouraging lots of logging and relogging which isn't fun. Bank space, even if maxed out (too much gold for most people), isn't enough as many people want to have space for every craft and to carry tons of random stuff while questing, hence the need for pack mules. Plus it's pretty cool to have your own house, adding longetivity and a gigantic money sink. Of my thousands of hours invested into past Elder Scrolls games, I doubt I could have done it without the space provided by my house.

Quest:

2. Speak with King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, or Jorunn the Skald-King

Player housing would become available once you finish the main story. A quest begins sometime after completing the main quest, starting with three messages being sent to your Mail. One from Emeric, one from Ayrenn, and one from Jorunn, who all express their thanks to you for ending the Planemeld and such. They would be honored to let you purchase a small piece of land from them to build a house, and ask you to visit if you ever wish to do so. Each message contains a sum of gold.

Things can work out two ways from here:

1. A small book is attached in each message as well. It acts like a Racial Motif but is organized as a "Quest Item", doesn't disappear on use, and is bound to account when taken from the mail. These books have map sketches of land plots in each zone, with whatever name the house would be called next to the land plot location markings.
OR
2. After reading the messages and taking the contents, the quest will conveniantly place a marker over all locations on the map where land is purchasable. Exploring these regions with the quest active places a circle on your map that gives you an idea of what land will be cleared for your house when you stand over the area, and possibly even a telegraph on the ground showing it too.

Buying houses in enemy faction territories requires you to speak with those faction's leaders, meaning to gain access to all houses you have to start Cadwell's Silver (If DC, unlocks AD zones) and Cadwell's Gold (if DC, unlocks EP zones).
Talking to Emeric, Ayrenn, or Jorunn now activates a new conversation topic called"Housing". If you talk to them about housing, you are allowed to pick from a long list including each of the names of plots of land that are available in their faction. This will give people more motivation to make it through Cadwell's Silver too, as it would unlock the Gold zones.

There are named plots of land scattered throughout Tamriel, about 1-3 per zone, where trees, mobs and small things could be cleared for your house only once you buy the land (excluding small zones like Stros M'Kai and obviously Coldharbour and Cyrodiil). This eliminates the issue of twenty players circling a random tree in the wild and disappearing randomly, since not many people will have the same house. Houses would feature architecture similar to what houses in cities of that zone looked like.

Only one house can be owned at a time per account, becoming available to all of your characters. These houses can be fast traveled to, and allows you to teleport to a wayshrine from them free of cost, meaning a bunch of people won't stand around the same house location. If it belongs to a faction zone you haven't unlocked (Lvl23 DC character, house is in AD territory), walking out the front door teleports you to the wayshrine closest to where you chose to travel to the house from, like group dungeons do when they are located in enemy factions you haven't unlocked. If you unlock the enemy territory to explore, or it's in your home faction's land, you walk outside as normal.

Houses aren't all the same. There would be a small selection of different types of house styles, per faction territory area, to choose from. Maybe 2-3 types per alliance. (6-9 house types)

This process of choosing what to build on your house is not like Skyrim's Hearthfire DLC (which ESO could and should really consider replicating). The houses will already look finished on the outside, with only minor purchasable decorations to add. On the inside will be a nice, extremely empty house.

Prices: Land costs a lot of gold, about 15K to purchase a plot of land. This is where a house can be built, for a price of 50K. Outside house decorations just add little cosmetic things, each 1K-5K. The inside of the house is where the most money is spent. Moving your house with its belongings (inside and outside) to another plot of land is free, but you have to buy the new plot of land for another 15K. In other words, moving costs 15K.

These prices let those people at low levels know that this is reserved for when you are farther in the game. Bank space is only sufficient for so long.
The biggest part of how this balances comes from how the space you buy inside the house actually functions. It will be a decent size house close to those in Hearthfire. The insides of the house work like they did in Skyrim's city style houses, where the whole house is there but not completely filled. Filling it all completely will cost ridiculous amounts of gold (money sink).

You can purchase three types of upgrades for your home: Decorations, Crafting, and Storage.

Decorations include all types of seats, tables, candles/lighting, useless clutter and other things that makes the house nicer. ESO is the best Elder Scrolls game when it comes to the sheer amount of weapons/armor. Manekins and weapon racks would be absolutely fantastic. They can all cost anywhere from 500 - 5,000 gold depending on the upgrade. Decorating also features two other upgrades. A bed and a garden. Sleeping in a bed doesn't actually pass time, but does privide a "Well Rested" buff granting a 5% experience boost for awhile. Gardens start with one planter containing 3 spots to plant a selection of certain alchemy or provisioning ingredients. This can be upgraded to four planters, totaling 12 slots. An ingredient is destroyed upon planting it, and a 20 hour period must pass between each time you farm it afterward, similar to horse upgrades.

Crafting stations are simple, 30K each. Expensive, but not with unique set bonuses. It's a nice convenience if you've got the gold.

Storage is available right next to each of the stations, for a price of 3K-7K per bag space (which appears as bags, chests, barrels, etc). These are all a bunch of mini banks, available to your whole account. Depending on what the storage is, they hold different amounts of space. Barrels may hold around 10 space initially, which can be upgraded. Chests could do around 40, Backpacks could be 30. All can be increased by increments of 10 space for more gold.

Storage can be craft-specific (located next to its respective station) or normal. If you decide to place items in a craft specific container they need to be of the correct craft to count toward your bank, or else it won't. If you place random stuff besides Alchemy ingredients (such as Blacksmithing materials) into an Alchemy satchel, those items will not appear usable when you try to craft with them at a station. This way, it becomes a lot more expensive than just buying an Alchemy satchel and storing everything in it for more space for the sake of saving gold. Normal storage containers are placed around the house but most likely primarily in the bedroom, which can store anything, and cost more.

Storage given from craft specific space should max at somewhere near 20-30 space above these "total" values. I counted Imperial City materials as well (pretty sure I counted everything correctly). A random few barrels located outside could be used to hoard trophy fish, and only trophy fish. That's like 220ish space, but can only be used for trophy fish... Nevermind...

Anyway...

A house is essentially a MUCH better bank, and is more personal. This is the kind of thing that keeps me attached to Elder Scrolls games and why they are my favorite. Constantly flipping characters to stash my excess materials is extremely annoying, and no one likes doing it. I've found it is necessary though if you want to pursue all or most of crafts and don't want to get rid of everything you have. Cities will still have more than enough players roaming everywhere. Without housing, it just isn't the same. This is a minor feature, but adds so much to the longetivity and enjoyment of this game that I was shocked when I heard this wasn't in before release. Please, whether any of what I wrote is considered, or you copy Hearthfire, don't ignore this feature. Whether it could be DLC or not is something I can't decide on, but this is more important than Orsinium to me. I made my system for how it could work all simple and based on gold, but after comparing the two a Hearthfire style system would actually be much better. It's an integral part of the Elder Scrolls, please tell me this could come true in the future!

P.S. I just found out that player housing was announced a long time ago once I finished writing all of this. There has been no word on it since then and chances are it will be pushed to be released like 1-2 years from now, if even then. If you're an Elder Scrolls fan, chances are this is a feature you miss too. There's no reason why after Orsinium this couldn't be implemented. It's not a balance change that requires a reworking of everything, this is DLC specifically designed to keep players heavily invested in the game and spending tons of gold (maybe crowns too?). I'd love a for a developer to please at least give an update on something regarding housing.

    i think player housing should just be a small void room that the only thing in it is a door to exit this house and the rest of the small room is just blackness or whiteness depending on how they want to display the void :D

    Use the search function next time. There have been at least 10 threads about housing this week alone, and hundreds over the past year. A developer recently stated that they are looking at implementing player housing in the future. He didn't give any specifics or a timeline.

    A home to me in previous ES games was a place to lay my head and store/make edible things.

    We should have things like containers and armor racks in there that tie into our existing bank slots. So an item you placed in the container(chest, nightstand, dresser, etc) was also stored in your personal bank space. With this, we could get the items from home or by going to a bank and withdrawing. We should be able to do this with anything that could be stored in our bank. We shouldn't have to go to a bank to get an item we own, if we have housing.

    No Guild Store or quest/pledge access would be available this way. You want a quest or item, go to the existing places for them.

    We should also be able to use anything in our home. Chairs, ladders, beds, cooking fire etc. No Crafting(other than provisioning) stations should be in the home also. There's plenty of those out in the world already.

    Being able to choose different floor plans for our homes would be really neat as well. This could help make it unique and just for us. Container placement would also be a great addition. Apply the items via the Quickslot and place them where we want just like siege weapons. The difference, is when we've set the item in place, it's no longer in our inventory and stuck where it's at. You could destroy the item and get another though to place in another spot.

    It would also be really neat if we could display stolen loot, thinks like pictures, cups etc. by placing them on the wall or mantle as trophies.

    I like the detail you've got in there, how much of that sort of thing they'll be able to include in an MMO based on the megaserver tech vs a single player game remains to be seen. Keep up with the ideas tho, it never hurts to throw them out there.
